Everrett Brown called most impact rookie next season

Oh I see, Mike Mayock doesn't know what he's talking about either - okay I get it, you're a know it all.

There has to be a good reason why Mayock made a point out of specifying twice within a few seconds that Brown was a RIGHT defensive end.

We'll see what happens when the season starts... I'm gonna dig up this thread.

Brown said he can play either side, and Peppers is better on the side he's on.

There is no reason to switch the two.

Not sure if this is doable agaisnt every offense but I could see a starting lineup of:

LE Johnson

DT Brayton

DT Peppers

RE Brown...

providing a hell of a pass rush. Even against the run they would be fairly stout. Probably not the best lineup for a team like the Giants or Vikings but agaisnt the Patriots and Cards it could be very effective.

Also, Peppers complains he's not used to maximize his talent. JMO but I think Peppers could be THE best pass rushing DT in the league. Crazy thought I guess.

I doubt Brayton and Peppers could hold up in the middle against any OL in the NFL.

Brayton playing the 3 technique is an interesting concept however....

Well of course Brown said that - I would say that too, he's a competitor. He's also a rookie and starting out on day one he's not going to offend a veteran by suggesting that he'd be better at his position.

There are several very good reasons for Brown to play RE and Peppers to play LE:

1. Peppers = 6'6 290

2. Brown = 6'1" 250

Brown should be lined up on the weak side of any play, if you line him up on the strong side I'm gonna put my TE and tackle on him and you'll never hear from him again. Most TE's in the NFL are as big or bigger than Brown.

Let me be clear: I'M NOT SAYING BROWN CAN'T PLAY LE, I'M JUST SAYING IT MAKES MORE SENSE TO PUT HIM AT RE (OR THE WEAK SIDE OF THE PLAY) BASED ON HIS SIZE AND SKILL SET.

Brayton actually did move inside on 3rd downs last year, so that's nothing new. There is no way the starting line up will end up like that though.

It actually can be done with smaller DT's and DE's though...see the 06 Colts play off run...they shut down some damn good rushing attacks on their way to the Super Bowl.

True... it can be done - but why do it when you have a 350 lb Samoan on the roster, LOL.

That's your assumption, but it's not what the man said at all. Hell, if your assumption is true, then why didn't he pick Orakpo? The Skins needed a DE even more than the Panthers, and the guy was picked ahead of Brown.

I am not saying his pick was the correct one. You need to get on the same page here. I am saying that I think the destination and circumstances there weigh heavily in trying to predict and determine a selection of this type.

do you actually disagree with that?

Well yeah, I'm sure he looked at a lot of things, but my point is that he didn't say that Brown will have the biggest impact, because the D-line sucks...he said that he was the best pass rusher. I'm pretty sure he even commented that Orakpo doesn't have the moves that Brown has.

It was Schlereth who said that Brown would have the biggest impact as a rookie not Hoge.

Hoge said that Jason Smith would have the biggest impact.

Believe that if you want to, but Hodge was the first to speak on the matter, before Schlereth and all Hodge talked about was how Brown was going to have the most impact. Schlereth did say Brown's name in response to Hodge and kinda agreed with him, but Hodge was the man who said it...

No man, it was Schelreth who picked Brown to be the most impactful rookie, Hodge picked someone else entirely different. I think Hodge picked Maclin.

we did not trade a first for him not to become a everydown player.

And he will be. Not his first year, but he see the field, and rush the passer. The rest of his ability will develop, and he will become an everydown player.

People should be happy to have such a talented player with a non stop motor.

Instant pass rush, well worth a first round pick.

Well I guess we just listened to different broadcasts then, because I heard what I heard and reported it as such. No problem with that, it happens.

The way these talking heads change their minds from one broadcast to the other blows my mind...
