So I Know Two Languages...

Ivan The Awesome

Recommended Posts

I'd like to learn a third. Any advice on which to learn? I kinda have a top 5 that I've been wanting to learn. I've been looking at it as recreational purpose, but as a professional one as well.

No particular order

1. French

2. Russian

3. German

4. Portuguese

5. Chinese (Mandarin)

Any others that could be more useful?

I'm assuming you know spanish?

French is a pretty difficult language from what I understand. I took it in high school but never really learned much. Chinese would probably be the most useful but I'd go with German or Russian.

Yes, Spanish and English. I took 2 years of French in School but I don't know, I just never really got into the language. I can understand some French but not enough to pick it back up again.

I was thinking German, but then Russian sounds cool too.

If I ever decided to learn a language it'd be Russian.

I've actually been offered a 6 month internship in Sydney, Australia. My dad spent time there while in the Navy & said a southern accent makes the aussie girls cream themselves.

Funny you say that. I spent so much time in the south that friends I have in other parts of the Country (USA) say I have a heavy souther accent now. Australia is one of my favorite countries. I really want to go there one day. If I could I'd move there. I realize half of the wildlife can kill you but there's something about Australia that is Awesome.

What type of internship are you talking about?

I think the only problem with learning another language will be usage. My brother and I speak English all the time at home. When I go to school or whatever I use Spanish all the time as well. I'm immersed in both languages 24/7. That's the key element that will be missing, which will make it harder to learn, at least I think. Not being able to use it on a regular basis.

Australia is home to like 7 or 8 of the 10 deadliest snakes in the world, dozens of deadly spiders, crocodiles, & everything else. Not sure about that.

It's an internship for the company I work for. I started out as a machine operator, worked my ass off, & they saw I was intelligent & a hard worker & I got my foot in the door of their IT dept. My degree wasn't leading to any career opportunities so I made one for myself with hard work. It's pretty much just training & classes to learn the software & machinery we use.

Yeah, that would make it pretty difficult. Plus I've heard Russian isn't the easiest language to learn to begin with. I'm still trying to master english.
