The owners also voted to move the trading deadline from after Week 6 to after Week 8, and to allow one "marquee" player placed on injured reserve to return to practice after the sixth game and to the lineup after the eighth game. That player must be on the 53-man roster after the final preseason cut.

Saw this at the tail-end of ESPN's article on knee- and thigh-pad wearing by 2013 today. The 'marquee' player exemption for the Injured Reserve list is especially interesting; Suggs and others in his situation could really benefit

As far as the rules I think it's great. Not that the NFL ever does any blockbuster trades as it is, but you might see more now. 2-4 isn't necessarily done as a season, 2-6 pretty much is, and losing teams may concede that they aren't going anywhere. The IR rule will be good for when Otah busts a toe week one and takes 5 weeks to recover from it, but we won't have to put him on full blown IR now, so that's cool.
