Computer Help Again

I have pretty much come to the conclusion that the problem is now in the MB for my computer.

I added a new (correct) Video card and it corrected the resolution problem. However, it didn't correct that the color Blue is missing from most sites.

Here's my question. I can get a bare bones computer, AMD 6 core 3.6 Hz processor, New MB, etc. for around $350 with case, memory (Both of which I don't really need).

The package doesn't come with any OS. Can I install my Windows7 HD in this? Seeming as HD's are pretty much plug and play, I'm thinking that it shouldn't be a problem to canablize my older system and add to my new system.

I also have that 1 gig video card and a new 600W power supply to replace the 450W that comes with it.

As long as I can plug in my old HD that has Windows7 OS, I shouldn't need to spend the money to get a new license.

Yeah, when you boot it up for the first time it'll be like WTF New Hardware Recognized and try to get you to install the new drivers for things(which you should do). But other than that it'll be fine. I do suggest reinstalling Win7 again down the road anyway though. The amount of registry screwups that Windows goes through is ultimately what causes "slow downs" in the future.

I'm hoping that since I'm using the same manufacturer of MB's, the Bio will be compatible. I hate the thought have having to wripe and start over. but if I do, I do.

i'd say the chances are slim that it works, most likely you will have to do a full install. but you could go ahead and order a small hd for the OS and do the full install on it, and still have access to your old data

i use a 140gb hd for my OS and a 500gb hd for games and media for that same reason

Have you backed up the data on your current config since the only problem seems to be a color rendering problem, wiped your HD and done a fresh install yet?

Trying to clustergug your old install onto a new hardware setup is fugging ridiculous.

Either way you'll probably face a microsoft gauntlet to get the new hardware config activated,

With the machines we have here at the office we use disk images. With this we build one computer, make a copy of its hard drive, and then when we need to rebuild a computer we just copy the disk image to the new hardware.

We have had very little success using an image for one hardware profile on a different hardware set even when the hardware is very close in spec. Two Dell machines that were built a year apart but are almost identical from a spec standpoint will almost never use the same image.

All that to say I'd be shocked if it worked. Windows is stupid picky when too much of the core hardware changing.
