Jason Smith @ Nfl.com (Cam A Top Ten Qb)

Recommended Posts

We will get to see how good Rivers is when we see him this year without VJax.

He was a top five QB in 2010 in a season where he was throwing to no names once Gates was injured and Jackson played what, 3 games? He had a down season but I have little doubt he'll bounce back this season. Heck, he was showing signs of his old self later on in the season once his offensive line improved hence why they stomped Baltimore.

I think if anything, and why I don't think we should be worried about him going to Tampa much, is we're going to truly see how good Jackson is without Rivers throwing him the ball. FA WRs that had stud QBs throwing to them tend to not do too well when they lose that QB.

Adding in what Cam does with his legs, I can understand his ranking, and yes, he should be a consistent top 5 QB going forward. This of course assumes no serious injuries and MH keeps enough weapons around him.

Stafford being below Matt Ryan in just plain stupid. No way, no how.

The jury is out on Rivers until we see him this year. Last year may have been an aberration.

Stafford should be higher than Matt Ryan.

Eli is not the best QB in the league. Yeah he won 2 SB but the defense helped alot.

Dalton should be higher than 17th

My top 10

1. Aaron Rodgers

2. Drew Brees

3. Ben Roethlisberger

4. Tom Brady

5. Payton Manning (if healthy)

6. Eli Manning

7. Cam Newton

8. Matthew Stafford

9. Phillip Rivers

10. Michael Vick

Cam is the most physically gifted QB in the league. If you rated the QB's by talent alone, he's #1. But you're judged by wins and Cam hasn't even made the playoffs yet. I put him just outside the top 10.

#1: Eli Manning - he's not flashy, but he wins. Can't argue with his track record.

#2: Brady - still the man. should have 5 Superbowls if it wasn't for the Giants having the Pats number.

#3: Rodgers - probably the favorite to get another championship this year

#4: Brees - team is falling apart but Brees is still going to put up 5000 yards

#5: Roethlisberger - if he can stay healthy, he's one of the best

#6: Peyton Manning - here on cred alone, no telling how he'll play this year on a new team recovering from injury but will probably still be a baller

#7: Rivers - when he has talent around him, the Chargers will always be in the playoffs. He's had to work with less in recent years and it's showed. Still a top QB

#8: Vick - make it or break it year. Supremely talented QB but facing high expectations and might not have much left in the tank

#9: Ryan - needs to win in the playoffs to move any higher

#10: Stafford - only above Cam because he's made it to the playoffs...on the Lions no less. Should be higher after another successful year

#11: Cam Newton - Can't make the top 10 if you haven't made the playoffs.

    • Same... With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level. Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC. His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good. Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well. That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
    • Clearly the best outcome for us is a Giants W. A spot or two difference in the 4th round is inconsequential. Just look at the trade value charts. A spot or two at the top of the 1st means a LOT. A spot or two in the mid-rounds? Virtually nothing.
    • Agree. I don't think I have ever heard him say anything positive, at any time, about the Panthers. Best expectation is no mention at all.
