Panthers Hope Hogan Can Step Up (Pfw)

Recommended Posts

From Pro Football Weekly

The Panthers do not yet have a clear answer as to who will start at right cornerback for them come Week One, but we hear the club would be pleased to see someone step up and beat out fourth-year veteran Captain Munnerlyn for the job in training camp.

The Panthers expect second-year player Brandon Hogan and rookie Josh Norman to push Munnerlyn, who started a career-high 14 games at corner last season.

Munnerlyn is heading into the final year of his rookie contract, and the team would be more comfortable using him in a reserve/sub-package role.

From Rotoworld

The Panthers would reportedly prefer incumbent RCB Captain Munnerlyn to settle into a reserve/sub-package role on defense.

Munnerlyn is a strong slot corner, but was stretched covering the outside last season. The Panthers reportedly hope second-year CB Brandon Hogan can step into the lineup opposite LCB Chris Gamble. Rookie Josh Norman is another option, and Darius Butler could be in the mix after making six starts last year.

We have a some young talented guys at the CB position. As much poo as Cap took for the 2011 season(rightly deserved) in 2010 he was the biggest bright spot in the CB corps that year. Don't get me wrong, I think he should stay at nickel, but he's a tough competitor. With Cap, Butler, hogan and Norman fighting for the spot, I fully expect whoever wins the job, earned it.
