Delhomme to 40??

As long as he manages the game and can make the throws. Realistically I think 2 more yrs as a starter and one as a backup. In the mean time we will keep working on a replacement. Moore seems to be the best option and hopefully after years of waiting he'll prove he was worth the wait.

The part that makes me laugh are all these fans that think all we have is Jake. We might not have the backup QB with the title "1st Round Draft Choice" in the waiting but I do believe we have two solid QB's to be ready when they are called upon. Fox and Hurney learned a painful lesson in 07. Though we had Moore he wasn't ready and Carr wasn't the answer. Vinnie gave us his all and probably did more for the running game then he ever did with his arm.

I think now we are comfortable with what we have. If we have one land in our laps when we have a certain pick. I could see grabbing it but I don't see us ever being high enough to draft a "Franchise" QB.

Well unless you would rather go 1-15 again and maybe get a chance to draft the next Joey Harrington over the next Peppers.

Jake is not here to sling the ball around 35-40 times a game and throw for 300 yds Per. You know it, I know it and most any knowledgable Panther fan knows it. Jake Manages our games well and more times than not when we need him to drive us down the field and win a game HE DOES.

If that depresses you, oh well such is life.

I could see if a QB lasted to the latter part of the 1st round, say like Quinn did a couple years ago I could see us taking him but outside that. We won't draft a franchise QB unless he comes in a late round gem.

Yes , I would love to be 1-15 again!!! :nopity:

Joey Harrington- to his defense he has never played on a good team

(poor guy).

Quinn's name has been thrown out there on the trading block for a long time and I am sure we could have made a deal with them during draft day (like everybody else did)

I hate QB game managers...and many Jake defenders dont like that term either because they think Jake is better then a Trent Dilfer. Game manager means>> medicore QB who doesnt turn the ball over and make dumb mistakes. Great

Well Pat White, Josh Freeman could have been considered Jems.

Pat could have played right away in some wild cat schemes, and be ready in 2 years. Which is about what Jake is expected to last 2-3 more years.

I am not going to go on and on about medicore Jake, but at some point we need to be grooming our future FRANCHISE QB. Like it or not Jake is our FRANCHISE QB in there warped minds.

Ill just stop now

And I'm betting they are not betting that. I'm betting they are counting on him to start/play at max 3 more years. Why do these outlets not yet understand that in the NFL a 5 year deal isn't really a 5 year deal?

Pretty much.

And for the record, Delhomme is not a game manager. I don't know why people think that. He's a gunslinger. Always has been, always will be. And something that should also be remembered: John Fox doesn't want him to be a game manager.

A big reason you keep a QB like Delhomme around (and keep in mind we have "Delhomme: The Sequel" and "Son of Delhomme" at two and three on the depth chart) along with a receiver like Smith is so that teams can't stack the box without taking the risk of giving up a deep ball downfield.

Jakes a game manager. You dont put the ball in his hand and expect him to when the game for you.

Who exactly led all those drives to win games late in the 4th quarter and in OT? Has another qb been subbing in on these occasions?

You assume that Pat White and Josh Freeman are surefire NFL starters. I don't. I think Freeman could be the answer and had we selected him i would have been happy . Same with White. But I am not like you whining cause we didn't take them. Don't throw the "we are doomed with Jake" attitude cause you didn't get what you way. I have more faith in our F.O. then a fan that is a "Jake Hater"

OUR team needs a QB to "Manage" the game. Our team is not build around the QB position it is built around a solid running game. Your Opinion about Mediocre. I wouldn't put him in the upper echelon but I won't list him as mediocre either. I put him in the top 7-10. I get the feeling when we win a game off a great throw and catch, you give the credit to the reciever. However, if we lose you put the whole lose on Jake. Many do. Part of being the QB.

But like you I am not going to go round and round with you about YOUR opinion about how good or bad Jake is. I have and still feel that Jake can and will lead us to the Super Bowl and win it. Apparently management feels the same way. The decision was made we didn't draft a QB. Get over it. White or Freeman would have been nice and I would have been all for grooming them for replacement. NOT THIS YEAR. We will get that opportunity next year and the year after that and the year after that. Every year there is a QB we could have taken. Soon we will, not in 09. GET OVER IT.

And so has been the story, ...every year. People putting off QB, "ah we'll take care of it later on". Kinda like a "cross that bridge when we get to it" deal. Well the time has almost come where we're rapidly approaching the bridge, and I can't help but almost realize, we....just might not give a poo about talent at QB. Whether or not our business model is getting a QB to "Manage" a game, how has that worked out the last few years? Teams with talented QBs have been winning the last 5 superbowls and beyond. Teams with talented QBs get to the playoffs more consistently. Teams with the running game/strong defense model have been more often flash-in-the-pan teams. Teams that can't muster consistent playoff runs, teams that don't make it that deep.

...and don't tell me anything about "ohhhh the risk is too big to assume". You can try and succeed, try and fail, or not try and fail. That's my POV. And, oh, we won't try to tie money in a bona fide QB, but we'll gladly pay a disgruntled DE 16 or even 20 million dollars, a guy who has hot streaks and COLD streaks. A guy who's basically proven he can't be a team leader, and a guy who is doing his very best right now to throw the wrench in our plans. ...yea, that's our highest paid player. Nice.

I did research about our "emulated" franchise, the Steelers in the Cowher era. For 15 years Bill almost always had that defense and that running game. It got them in the playoffs, but when they had Kordell Stewart and Maddox, and these other guys that weren't good passers on their team they went nowhere in the playoffs. ...Until they got Ben Roethlisberger, 1st round. 2 superbowl victories since.

Just because Management feels like they made the right decision doesn't mean they did. Doesn't make you any smarter than anybody else just because you agree with them either. Doesn't make me or anybody else less of a fan because I don't. Doesn't mean this little contract extension, BTW the LARGEST contract extension given to a player the age of Jake, won't blow up in their face because they are hard-headed and can't figure out very rarely do QBs keep their luster and capabilities well into their late 30s.

---and I'll add another one.

Jake struggles this year, I don't wanna hear poo about Tommy John, i don't wanna hear poo about the receivers, I don't wanna hear poo about the running game wasn't moving that well. You all want to crown Jake as this super soldier mental giant QB, we tied our commitment to him and he needs to pull through to justify his gigantic fuging contract.

In Ben's 1st Superbowl he managed the team. It wasn't him who won it.

I can reverse your scenario for one team. New England. They drafted Tony Eason in 1983 1st round, They Drafted Drew Bledsoe 1st Round. It took a 6th round QB T. Brady to finally put them over the top.

Johnny Unitas was cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bart Starr was a 17th round draft choice. In our day that is an UDFA.

Roger Staubach Round 10 another UDFA

Some you could argue either way Bottom line there were more Bust (30 out of 56) then superstars.

9 Super Bowl wins between 5 QBs (Elway, Aikman, P. Manning, E. Manning, B. Roethlisberger)

*** Dilfer is not counted because he won with a different team than who drafted him***

That mean 14 of last 25 Super Bowls were won by a QB that was drafted After the 1st round.

Rebuttal?

Wait, you said "his elbow wasn't giving him problems" and I gave you a direct quote where he himself said the exact opposite. As for what he meant? Ask him, you live closer to Charlotte than I do.

i meant problems like anything observable, not problems like "god this poo is sore after i throw four touchdown passes."

    • Yeah I'm not into college as much, so I admit not to having my own opinion about him coming out. But strictly watching ESPN shows, and going off of commentary at the time..It was a lot more 50/50 even on this board than what people like to remember and admit.  Yes many people had doubts and questions, but MANY people also thought he could possibly be the one. I was only versed enough to know that it was between he and CJ, but most pundits made it sound like either way we had a QB of the future, just different skillsets/traits.
    • Jonathan Mingo to the Cowboys Cowboys receive: WR Jonathan Mingo, 2025 seventh-round pick Panthers receive: 2025 fourth-round pick  Dallas Cowboys: C Leave it to Jerry Jones to wait until after Dak Prescott is injured to go after another receiver. To be fair, the Dallas Cowboys have a real need for the position. CeeDee Lamb is a superstar, but Jalen Tolbert and Brandin Cooks haven't been the needle movers that the Cowboys were hoping for. Making a trade for a receiver wasn't a bad move, but the player that the Cowboys gave up three rounds of value to acquire is questionable. Jonathan Mingo checked a lot of physical and athletic boxes as the 40th-overall pick in 2023. Unfortunately, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound wideout has struggled to be a productive receiver at the NFL level. Some of that has to do with playing for the Carolina Panthers, but Mingo has seriously lacked efficiency at the position. Mingo has yet to record his first NFL touchdown, catching 55 passes for 539 yards. Per TruMedia, he has just 0.74 yards per route run in his career, which ranks 177th out of 186 receivers with at least 50 targets since the start of the 2023 season.Even though Mingo fills a need, that's a lot of value to give up for a receiver that's struggled so much at the NFL level. The good news is that he still has a couple more years on his rookie deal, so at least the Cowboys are getting a cheap developmental project to learn from a star like Lamb. Carolina Panthers: A Instead of trying to hold onto Mingo, the Panthers took what they could get, and that turned out to be way more than expected. Mingo quickly became expendable thanks to the rapid ascension of rookie receiver Xavier Legette. Along with a larger-than-life personality, Legette has hauled in 26 catches for 244 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns have come in the last four games, with Legette becoming more and more of a focal point in Carolina's offense. For a team that needs to capitalize as much as possible on draft assets, moving up three rounds in the draft to move on from a disappointing draft pick feels like an absolute win. https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-trade-deadline-2024-grading-every-move/
