Saints** Believe They Deserve Extra Credit This Year So They Can Sign Brees

..those stupid mutherfeckers. If this is true not only are they the saddest excuse of a franchise the league has ever seen but they (just like with the bounty thing) believe they are above all the rules and entitled to special considerations.

They have the three biggest lottery-shock, came out of nowhere players of the last decade on their team and they fell into all three by trying their damndest do remain status quo, which for the Saints* means "mediocrity or worse" Brees is one of those guys. They took a flier on him because he was cheap and nobody else wanted him and it was an attempt to appease the bag heads by looking like they made an attempt. For them it cost nothing and they got arguably the best QB in the league.

Now they cannot pay for him and what? Its somebody else's fault? I cannot believe this is true but if it is I have found a new level of personal disdain, not casual fandom, but personal disdain for the franchise. I'm talking push an old lady down in the street just for wearing Saints* gear level disdain. dook-level disdain. Flip-em all off on site level disdain.

I need to hear this from another source or two first but this is stratospherically shocking if true. Those clowns have got Katrina-courage, FEMA-fuel, uber-entitled issues down there. And yes, if the Panthers did this I would be gone, see ya, bye. No questions.

I have to go on business down to that bowl of raw sewage for a week next month and I am soooo looking forward to it. I promise to wear Panthers golfer out every night. And not the toned down, incognito, black, pretty-boy one, I'm talkin' the loud as sh-t, NASCAR-ish, neon laser in your face blues and white one.

the other two out of nowhere home runs that nobody saw coming are Colston and Graham btw.

I can't read Rotoworld at work, but if what you're saying is true, they have apparently taken Peter King's article out of context, since they are quoting direct lines of text from the article linked by Inimicus. The article is about how the Saints** feel that Brees should take less money since they gave him more money than the market was willing to give Brees 6 years ago. It's stupid on their part, but nowhere does the article imply that they are campaigning to the league to get more cap space because of their stupidity.

thanks for the input here. In any case I needed something to mini-rant on this morning. I cannot believe any team would actually do this.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting since there isn't a link, but what does that have to do with them saying they deserve more cap space to sign Brees? I think what the author is saying is that the Saints** think Brees should take less money because they took on a bigger risk in 2006. Either way it's dumb on their part since he vastly outplayed his contract, but the thread title is misleading.

You aren't misinterpreting. It was clear to me.

The Saints** feel they should be credited for taking a medical risk with Brees in 2006. He was coming off serious shoulder reconstruction, and no team was willing to offer him $10 million a year. True. But by almost any measure Brees outplayed his contract. He's been the most statistically productive quarterback, and he didn't miss any significant time; Brady and Manning each missed a season due to injury.

He's been the most statistically productive quarterback, and he didn't miss any significant time; Brady and Manning each missed a season due to injury.

So what is Brees worth? He doesn't have the medical red flag of Manning. It's easy to argue he'll be healthier longer than either other player, obviously because he's younger, but also because he hasn't had anything notably wrong with him since the end of the 2005 season.

One more thing: When you look at the earnings of the three men, remember that Brady's bottom line in some ways has been depressed slightly because of his unwillingness to be a pig in negotiations. He hasn't gotten jobbed, but he's never been a bandit either.

Manning, coming off a dangerous neck injury and surgery, is making $18 million this year. Brady, who signed his deal 20 months ago, is entering the third year of a contract paying an average of $18 million a year.

Brees is younger, has been more durable, has been more productive ... and the Saints** are entering a season unlike any a quarterback has ever had to pilot through, considering the suspensions and unrest in New Orleans. I think the Saints** will pay him before the middle of August, and it'll be somewhere around $21 million a year. Looking at the precedents, that's only fair.

Hey, I love any vitriol directed toward the Saints* and it was a good read. Maybe we should get you ticked off more often.

Vitriol has kinda been my thing lately. I work with idiots. Fortunately the ACC baseball tournament is in town starting Wednesday morning at 11 and I plan on taking time and relaxing through 9 games before hitting the lake this weekend and delving into some serious mind-numbing, tension-releasing activities. I hope to lengthen the fuse a bit by next week this time.

Saints*** ---- Please NFL help us, we are just a little ole team that always follows the rules and we gave an injured player more money than any other team. we feel bad about him becoming a top 3 QB in the league. The NFL should help us sign him to a large deal now that our own GM used up the salary cap to sign less talented players. You know how bad it is down here, if we cant sign him we have have to move to Los Angeles in a couple years.
