Bubble Players

Recommended Posts

Norwood is out imo. It's weird as he played a lot in our first few games and then disappeared. I suspect he did something off the field that pissed off RR.

Others include Shirley, Campbell or Ziemba, Armanti, JC, J. Williams, and maybe Stanford.

I would not be overly surprised to see Captain or Martin gone, though that's a long shot.

Put me in Marty's shoes, and Mare would be gone.

At this point our roster will be 90 players. You can't be a bubble player at this point when we haven't even had our first OTA. We could add 10 players to the roster between now and August. Is the intent of this thread to be the first person to say something no matter how premature?? Is so then this thread is right on........

Anyone who is making predictions now is doing so off of last year not this one. At this point no one knows who has stayed the same, improved, or regressed. Deciding who will be good or bad is based on the past and not at all on the present or the future.

Cut AE now or as soon as mini camps start. Give him a chance to go somewhere and not loose another season. I know the haters won't believe it but he will be picked up by someone or he'll go to the CFL and go back to playing the position he should. Hurney made a dumb move with a project player, we all know that and it's time to move on. His time with the Panthers is over and they should give him a chance to move on and get a fresh start somewhere else.

And just to cover for the haters I'll go ahead and give you a starting point. "Sure, AE will get a fresh start. He'll be asking " "You want fries with that" real soon". There you go. :D

So I assume you hate 3/4 of the threads on here?

I don't hate any of the threads, since I would have to care about them enough to feel strongly about them one way or the other. I just find that making thread about starting lineups, bubble players, etc is pretty ridiculous given we haven even had our first OTAs and even seen any of the players this year. I just don't agree with the thought process that suggests that players don't get better, benefit from the offseason, or change. And to make an assessment off of last year's performance is doing just that. Even then the team is picked from the best players on the roster. How do we know who the best are until we actually see them play with pads on this year????

I understand what you are saying, but I think part of the fun of the offseason for fans is figuring out which players will be here, what their role is, etc. It is a little early to make accurate predictions, but hey, what else can fans do now?

I think that if you are going to debate this early it makes a little sense to discuss perhaps what type of secondary coverage we might run and who might best fit for example based on their skills sets historically or speed or whatever. You could look at the offensive line players we have brought in and perhaps discuss who might best fit in an option offense. Sure it is speculation and is based on what we expect to do rather than waiting to see what happens but makes sense for the off-season. Your bubble thread will make a ton of sense in August, it is just about 3 months premature.

It is a little premature. That is a good idea about talking about why we brought certain players in to fit our system, unfortunately, I do not want to attempt to answer that question for every player without sounding like an idiot.

Saying that, although I know it is a little premature, just starting up the discussion now is nice so that people like you may wish to speak as to why certain players are here and why they might stick around.

Here is a format which gets at the same issue but talks about depth by position and different categories of players as we head into camp.

QB Jimmy Clausen - obvious

RB Josh Vaughan - if one of the scatback UDFAs impress he could be gone

WR Armanti Edwards - obvious

FB/TE Richie Brockel - Barnidge will probably make it for ST, Hartsock will likely stay for blocking, Tolbert is obviously staying... he could be odd man out

OL Bruce Campbell - pure raw prospect and we gave up nothing for him... not a big deal if he ends up sucking in the pre-season

DL Thomas Keiser - isn't mentioned as a DE rotation guy in interviews... still eligible for PS though, but I'd predict him getting picked up if we drop him. It just might be too crowded if we want 5 DEs and 5 DTs...

DT Jason Shirley - also isn't mentioned as a DT rotation guy and is a journeyman as opposed to others we have at the position

DE/LB Eric Norwood - he sucks

LB Jordan Senn - took forever to finally be re-signed and I know Rivera likes Onatolu/J Williams as STers while we obviously have our top 4 LBers on the actual defense

S Sherrod Martin/Jordan Pugh - They're both garbage. Reggie Smith almost beat out Dashon Goldson last season for a starting job before getting hurt and Nakamura could make a strong push for starting as well while also being a valuable STer.

Guys who finished on our 53 last season but could go back to the practice squad: Jonathan Nelson, Bryant Browning, Darvin Adams
