Any Pet Lovers? Torn Between Two Dog Breeds

DO NOT BUY ANY DOG FROM A BREEDER!

Too many breeders these day are Puppy Mills! Buy from a rescue site in your state.

Dobbie Rescue Sites by State:

Rodie Rescue Sites:

Yes, recue sites aren't free, but knowing that you will give a dog a good home is better reward than supporting some low life puppy mill!

There's a difference between a breeder and a puppy mill. I personally would never rescue a dog. When you do there is no telling what kind of animal and it's accompanying issues you are bringing into your home. Did it once. Never again. All you have to do is do your homework on the breeder and the lines they are working with.

SUCK MY PIXI STICK

Why buy a dog from a breeder and pay $500-$1000, and that's with no guarantee that the dog is free from desease.

When for a heck of a lot less you can rescue one and help cut down on pet over breeding and uthenisation.

Unless you want to get into breeding the dog, and have to have AKC papers. I'd rather get one from a rescue site and know what I'm getting. And screw the papers. All my best dogs never had papers.

I will stand by my statement that there are a lot of breeders out there that just see $$$$$!

The breeder I'm using shows Ridgebacks & only breeds one litter every 2-3 years. They screen for diseases & are very selective about which dogs are bred, & they do not inbreed. They also are extremely selective about who they allow to adopt their puppies.

Not all breeders are puppy mills or do it for the money.

My wife had a ridgeback puppy and her family bred her. They're wonderful dogs. Once trained, you need to be consistent and continue the behavior or they can revert back. My wife wants another ridgeback one day. She really liked what a great guard dog hers was.

One thing to consider when reviewing breeders is whether the bitch has a history of dermoid sinus. It's a genetic disorder that requires surgery if the puppy has it, it affects the spine. The litter my wife's family had ended up with 2 puppies with this even though the mother didn't have it.

This little guy, was Chapu. He passed away last year, same day as steve jobs. I miss him a lot. <3 was 12. Not sure how many in dog years.

A dogs 1st bday equals 15 human years. After that it depends on size. At 12 years small breeds are 64, medium 69, & large 77.

Sorry for your loss, my lab passed away 2 weeks ago. I had her since I was in grade school. Got her when she was a puppy from a rescue. Somebody left her on the side of the road in a box because she had parvo. She was an amazing & loving girl. She was an outdoor dog & never fenced/chained. The neighborhood pet. I swear all my neighbors uploaded 100s of pics of her to FB after she died.

Yep, I've heard that is really the only health issue ridge's have. Doberman's have a TON of health problems.
