Vet Told Me That My Cat Is Diabetic

For the past 2 weeks she has drinking water like there's no tomorrow and urinating so much in her litter box that I had to clean it everyday.

I suspected that it mght be diabetis, but the Vet confirmed it today. :(

Now I have to give her 2 shots a day for the rest of her life. Between her and I, I would have thought I'd be diabetic first.

She's not going to be happy.

My neighbor had a dog that was.

I have to take care of her. She has stuck by me being in the "chair" all these years.

I've never heard of cats or dogs being diabetic and needing shots. I'm sure I would do anything for my little guy though. Good luck.

I have to take her back in the morning. They are going to do a couple more tests and then give her a shot of insulin and monitor her all day long.

She knows when I don't feel well (Nurse Cat) and also, she gets very protective when someone knocks on the door or comes into the house. (Guard Cat.)

Before FedEx changed drivers, she would run to the door and give this low gutteral growl at the FedEx Lady.

I just saw a sign tonight at walmart that the pharmacy has diabetes meds for pets now. $24.95

BiL had a diabetic cat. He had the 2 a day shots as well. It sucks and is a PITA but take heart. Once he got the cat on the shots the animal was back to being a playful healthy animal that led a long life.

I had to leave her at the Vet's today, so they could run more tests. Everything pointed to Diabetes. They gave her a shot of insulin late this morning and she responded really well. They actually gave her a little too much, so they cut the dose in 1/2 for me now. I gave her a shot tonight.

The vet said that they caught it early (no sing of pancreatic disease.) She said there's no reason that she should be back to her usual self and live long. (She's 11 years old.)

(We have been through WAY too much together.)

Has she been on any prednisone lately? Sometimes that can cause diabetes.

She sounds like a great cat. Hope she is feeling better soon.
