Cosell Talks: Newton & Stafford On The Rise

Recommended Posts

One of the things that people have missed on big time about Cam, because they get caught up in the accuracy issues, is that he has incredible pocket presence. Not for a young player, but for a quarterback, period. Late in the season, when Cam started getting into more of a groove and understanding how to execute the playbook better, he would take the snap and play under almost serene calmness, even with bodies flying around. It was a joy to watch.

It helps to know that you're almost as big as the darn linebacker on some of those teams. Cam is an extremely big but lean young man and he's still growing because he's only 23.

Watching Cam stand in the pocket with his poise, tossing the brick around was amazing, I was like this dude is a rookie, and has pocket poise like 5 year vet.

But you have to credit the O line, they weren't the best last year, and Cam made them look better with his escapability, but they did hold the line, on a lot of key moments, and Cam was able to get some great passes to his WR.

I can't imagine having a better line this year, with what we still have on the offensive side of the ball. We have a lot of depth at the O line, and I'm pretty happy with all of them.

Gonna have to disagree with you on the Oline. Yea it's always nice to compliment them as they are the catalyst for everything on the offense, but our line did not play well enough, simply passable. The highly creative offense that had lots of screens, options and designed QB runs (plus Cam's improvisations) covered alot of its flaws but we saw pretty awful guard play last season and below average play at right tackle. Our most reliable Olinemen, while good, do have their weaknesses as well (gross with the flaggies, kalil isn't the most overpowering lineman out there).

You don't need to take my word for it though, look at the offseason moves our FO made. Signing Pollack, drafting Amini and trading for Campbell. All three of those moves have starter implications. If Otah cant play well enough or stay healthy then Campbell and Bell will duke it out to start, Amini will probably start, and Pollack will probably start on the other side. Hangartner will probably be a rotational man for the entire interior line, as he can play Center pretty well.

In line two in my original post. mentioned Cam's escapability made the Oline look better, i do agree that the Oline was average at best, my point was suppose to be that Cam would sit in the pocket knowing he was about to get hit and still chuck the ball downfield, Cam was poise in the pocket, even with the Oline breaking down allowing rushers to come free, Look at Gabbert he was so beat up with the Jags oline, he started feeling pressure that wasn't there..

No arguments there. I think the FO is drooling over what this offense can do with elite offensive line play. They very well could think it'll prevent those stalled mid game drives and add more than say another top flight receiver (like Flloyd or Blackmon).
