Didn't Brees suffer an almost career ending knee injury in SD while under the franchise tag? If that is the case i find it highly likely that he'll holdout if he is not offered a contract that he thinks he deserves (and lets be fair, he is a top 3 qb he deserves a LOT).

Brees doesn't seem like a complete idiot so i highly doubt he is going to put his future in jeopardy by playing under the tag and risking never getting paid again..

And this belief that brees is going to take zero dollars instead if 12 million dollars because he wants more millions is really fuging dumb unless you jump through some hoops to convince yourself he'll martyr himself.

If you had actually read my previous posts you would've seen that it was a hypothetical statement... if Brees signs the tag and gets hurt, he will receive no more money. He will do what is best for his family and himself and playing on the tag is a gamble with his future.

I do not think the Saints** are nearly the franchise we are. We let Pepp walk by not putting another tag on him, I dont think NO/Benson would do that. I think he would keep putting that tag on. And I agree that they have put themselves in this situation and they had Brees signing the franchise tag in their mind all along as part of their strategy.

The Saint want be able to afford it next year.

The Franchise tag of (Not sure what the number is for QBs) is guaranteed right? No contract in the NFL is guaranteed. I might be missing something but if he did get a long term deal, unless he has an un goddly amount of guaranteed $$$ and he is hurt for the long term they could still cut ties and he would lose everything except the guaranteed correct?

I really have no sympathy for these athletes. I think Brees is just being an a$$. Seems to run in the flood water down there.

I guess it all revolves around the signing bonus. I would like to see Brees put his money where his mouth is and not sign. We all know he will sign, and so does Benson...

I knew this was going to be a stare down from the jump and before all the bounty junk that has put this on the back burner. Now I think you have to sign him and he holds a few extra cards at the table. Benson is a bat sh-t crazy mother f-cker though and may go completely opposite of what he should do. He does not like to be forced into anything and at the expense of the team may throw caution to the wind and sit on the "tag" tactic throughout this whole thing. After all (Benson's mind) the NFL has handcuffed him unfairly already. He can essentially deny the fans one of the league's biggest stars and favorite fantasy players and hide behind a cap issue.

He's that crazy. And Drew has to know that. The fact that Drew is not getting any "responses" and leaking it to the media is cause for me to believe that Benson is either scrambling to find a way to make an offer or sending a message that he is willing to sink the ship if Brees comes off too advantageously.
