Brees has already stated he won't sign a tender. The last time he did his season ended in reconstructive shoulder surgery. Besides, he can't just sign it & be gone next year. The Saints* can just keep tagging him.

I've never posted here, just read the boards as a guest since '08. All the Cam trolls have cluttered it to the point I joined to put them on ignore. This is a great site for Panthers news, but I have too much of a life to cipher through garbage in search of Panther news.

It's p funny how obsessed this board is with the contract of a player who will certainly be playing for the Saints** next year.

It's not like we are obsessing over Brees because he is out favorite player. The situation surrounding him directly affects us.

• Brees and the Saints** still being far apart on his contract numbers makes Brees more likely to hold out.
  

• Brees holding out makes it more likely he won't participate in OTAs (A real possibility at this point).
  

• Brees not going to OTAs means less team unity in an offseason for the Saints** already full of controversy and, that he's less likely to participate in training camp.
  

• Brees not being there in training camp means less repetitions which means that the Saints*'* O will be less precise.
  

• Saints*'* Offense getting off to a slow start means they may lose to the Skins week 1.
  

• Saints** losing to, or at least no blowing out, the Redskins means they have less momentum coming to Charlotte week 2 which means, we have a better chance of winning.
  

So it seems like we're as bad as Aints* fans, yacking it up about Breesus, but really, this poo has a direct effect on us, the Panthers, and our record come September.

You may know some Saints** fans that are worried. Most I know still think they'll run away with the division. The thing is they are not just trash talking the truly believe the NFC-S is theirs to lose. Even without leadership....

Brees and Benson are playing Chicken. Brees says he wont sign the tag / Benson is betting he is. Who will blink first? Brees signs the Tag or Benson gives him the contract he wants. It is the only drama we have at this point in the off season...

I kind of believe Brees,when he says he wont sign. He's protecting an investment (himself) and knows from his past,that any snap, could be his last. If Benson keeps playing games he could inflame the situation to the point of no return...if he wants Breesus to stay he better break out the checkbook and NOW.

I could be wrong here but I don't think its quite as simple as Benson just breaking out the checkbook.

Its my understanding that they have real cap issues that the franchise tag allows them to sidestep for another year. Without restructuring a number of other players I don't think the Saints* can just give Brees what he wants.
