People keep giving us B- to even C- draft grades, simply because we traded next years first. Even on this forum we have people who dont seem to get it. Let me proceed to help those who dont understand why it is not a real big deal.

Everett Brown is a top 15 talent. With that in mind, lets assume we make the playoffs next year, which is obviously the plan, and even if we get knocked out the first round, we should still have a 22nd or 23rd pick atleast. Thus, it is almost like we traded a 22nd overall pick next year, for a 15th overall pick this year ALONG with another 4th round pick this year which let us get a potential sleeper at RB (as if we needed it). If Brown is a top 15 talent and we make the playoffs next season, than we actually do ourselves BETTER by trading next years pick, not worse. Duh. So stop making a big deal out of it, because the FO does know what they are doing... trading a lower

1st rounder for a higher 1st rounder and a 4th essentialy.

I'm excited at what this kid Everette can do. I liked him the best out of all the DEs in the draft. Orakpo may have been more "talented" and had the "prototypical DE size"---whatever that means, but in any event they are comparable and Everette's work ethic is better so I gave him the nod, and I'm glad it worked out that way that it was HE who fell down to the second round.

That is the silliest thing I have ever read! :smilielol5:

Rather have a B- or a C+ "Draft Rating" with:

2 43 Everette Brown DE Florida State

2 59 Sherrod Martin S Troy

3 93 Corvey Irvin DL Georgia

4 111 Mike Goodson RB Texas A&M

4 128 Tony Fiammetta FB Syracuse

5 163 Duke Robinson OT Oklahoma

7 216 Captain Munn. CB South Carolina

Then a D- or an F "Drafting Rating" with:

2 59 Sherrod Martin S Troy

3 93 Corvey Irvin DL Georgia

4 128 Tony Fiammetta FB Syracuse

5 163 Duke Robinson OT Oklahoma

7 216 Captain Munn. CB South Carolina

brown was a top 15 talent as a OLB..in a 3-4 not a DE in a 4-3..and even then the 3-4 teams passed on him in the first because of his size...

i like the brown pick but i am keeping everything in perspective..

So we bet our first rounder on that we will make the playoffs? Well if that si the case and the pick falls in the top 10 then the front office doesnt know what they are doing then.

We went 12-4 last season and we lost how many starters? We developed a young squad last year, who now have playoffs experience and you are worried we wont atleast make the Wild Card?!?!? Who is going to win our the NFC south exactly? Will it be the Falcons, who had one big season, with a QB in Matt Ryan that I really like, but has only had one good year and still lacks experience... I guess Tony G put them over the top? I dont think so.

Maybe you think it will be the Saints who still lack on the DEF side of the ball, a team we consistantly play good DEF on and a team that stands no chance at all if Drew Brees gets hurt for even 2 games this year.

Or th Bucs could REALLY challenge us for the title since they have done nothing but cut starters and draft poorly. Yeah your right, we will probably have a 4-12 record this season and have traded away our top ten pick in the draft next year. Even if we have a top ten pick next year, we still got the guy we would need a year early and for 2nd round money not top 10.

But yeah your right, we will suck because of our schedule and the FO will prove themselves to be just a stupid as they were last year when everybody said it was stupid to trade this years first for Otah... really? that was stupid. EVERYBODY will agree that move was great... but now we the same kind of thing and it is stupid? If it was a good move last year than why is it bad this year. Again, dont look at Brown as a 2nd round pick, because he is a first round pick, just drafted in the 2nd somehow. We didnt trade for a 2nd but a 1st for less money.

hypothetically speaking Brown was considered a top 4-3 DE until the combine came around and teams realized he was 1/4th of an inch shorter than they thought, ...which is stupid. ...but it worked out for us.

    • According to the talking heads of the sports world, this is a pretty meh QB class.  Sanders and Ward are the only two with first round buzz, but the rest are blah.  Take that for what you will. Let's see how Bryce does in year three.  That's just where we are.  Patience is the key here.  Players need time to develop.  They can't develop if they don't play.  Bryce has made some really good throws, but he doesn't look like CJ Stroud.  That's going to be his point of comparison the rest of their careers.  The ball doesn't explode off Bryce's hand, it's not a cannon ball shot out of a cannon.  He's not going to break a 70 yard run.   Bryce is going to have to continue to make good throws and make plays.  Part of that is going to depend on the play calls.  Part of it is based on the skill players.  A couple drops picked up yesterday and it's a win and Bryce throws 1-2 more TDs.  A completely different story. It's been a crazy year indeed.  I just want to see Bryce continue to develop.  To see XL become more consistent.  To see JT fully recover (not play this season if he's not healthy).  I want to see Coker continue to make plays.  I'd love to see Brooks get more touches and Chubba continue to hammer defenses. Then this approaching offseason, let's go back to the D and work on fixing it.
    • Prime is already gone boss.  Nothing left for team Sanders in college football.
    • Justin Fields’ fifth-year option was declined by the Steelers in April. Without a new contract, he will be a free agent in March. I am pulling for Bryce Young to look good the rest of the season, but if he doesn't, how many of you would be on board for the Panthers to try signing Justin Fields?
