3-4 OLB Combo's(Last years stats according to pff)

Dallas outside rushing combo (3-4 OLB'S)

Demarcus Ware-20 sacks and 44 qb pressures

Anthony Spencer-6 sacks and 35 qb pressures

Washington outside rushing combo(3-4 OLB'S)

Brian Orakpo-10 sacks and 43 qb pressures

Ryan Kerrigan-9 Sacks and 36 qb pressures

Kansas City outside rushing combo(3-4 OLB'S)

Tamba Hali-12 Sacks and 41 qb pressures

Justin Houston-6 sacks and 13 qb pressures

4-3 DE Combo's(Last years stats according to pff)

Chicago outside rushing combo

Julius Peppers-12 Sacks and 53 qb pressures

Israel Idonije-5 sacks and 32 qb pressures

Giants outside rushing combo

Jason Pierre Paul-16 sacks and 26 qb pressures

Osi Umenyiora-9 sacks and 20 qb pressures

Giants also have Justin Tuck who contributed for 6 sacks and 21 qb pressures but he was not nearly as effective as Osi who only played in 374 snaps vs Tuck's 648 snaps.

Philadephia outside rushing combo

Jason Babin-18 sacks and 37 qb pressures

Trent Cole-11 sacks and 44 qb pressures.

Other honorable mentions

The Raiders had the best combo of pass rushing DT's in the leauge

Tommy Kelly-8 sacks and 16 qb pressures

Richard Seymour- 6 sacks and 25 qb pressures

In addition they had Kamerion Wimbley add 6 sacks and 40 qb pressures from his OLB spot.

Denver has Von Miller who last years most effective pass rusher playing OLB in a 4-3

he had 12 sacks(double the sacks 2nd best 4-3 OLB had)and 29 qb pressures

Elvis Dumervil had 12 sacks and 28 qb pressures from the DE spot

To put these numbers in perspective, last year 25(24 not including Charles Johnson) players had 9 or more sacks last year. 11 of these guys had at least 9.

31 players (29 not including Johnson and Hardy)had 30 or more qb pressures and

10 of these guys had 30 or more and thats only half of next years opponents.

Should be interesting to see how our o-line holds up against the guys next year.

I want to beat Peppers so bad. It feels like every guy that leaves the Panthers comes back to beat us.

JPP abused Gross in the preseason last year. That is a big concern.

Von Miller has us circled because Cam was drafted ahead of him.

The rest of those guys are fine. You play 16 games a year, someone is going to have a good pass rush. Cam did get abused vs the Vikings last year for a few turnovers and we still had a chance to win the game.

We have a long way to go. Some of those great pass rushers will be injured when we play. Some of our oline may be injured as well. It's just May talk.

I think the 3-4 teams will be the most trouble overall since it's harder to tell who is coming when. Against the Giants we will need to stay out of 3rd and long. Really don't want the Giants putting their DEs at DT and just letting them loose. Should help that we have Cam. Interesting stats OP

Our offensive scheme should take some of the intensity off of the edge rush. This thread makes me sad because it makes me think about our pass rush. Hopefully Alexander surprises and makes an impact.

i think our pass rush will be a lot better this year.

new system with backup players and rookies starting in many places...not really a situation that a team can be really aggressive in. having beason and esp. kuechly in as safety valves will allow pass rushers to be much more aggressive. i think the playbook will also be opened wide allowing for a lot more looks and ways to be effective. most guys having a year in the system and overall more time to prepare will make the defense better and more effective all the way around.

i'm just not really concerned about the defense or pass rush. it will be there.

We have one of the best O-lines in the league, so I am not that worried.

Plus, I expect to see more option plays and pitches this year. I also expect to see a lot of development in the short passing game, so Cam should be well protected, and should be able to get the ball out quickly if he needs to. We will also have a boss run-game to rely on if need be.

agreed. one thing i would add to that is that i think cam will be a lot smarter about reading defenses. sure, defenses will be adjusting to him and this offense but i really think that they will be working hard to catch up to last years version of cam and this offense but cam and chud will have taken this offense to whole new levels.

Johnson and Hardy actually were a decent pass rush combo last year.

Johnson-10 sacks and 32 qb pressures

Hardy-4 sacks and 33 qb pressures

They actually graded out to be the 7th best 4-3 DE combo behind Philly,NYG,Chicago,Minnesota(Allen and Robinson) Baltimore(Suggs and Krueger) and ST.Louis(Long and Hall) out of 21 4-3 teams last year if you look at combo of qb pressures and sacks.

if you include 3-4 duos Dallas,Washington,San Fran, and Pittsburgh had better outside pass rushing duos than us. Which would make us 12th overall in combination of best outside pass rushers.

Where we lacked was run defense and a horrid secondary. Also I expect us to generate a lot of pass rush out of our LB core this year as well.

I think Alexander was drafted to compete with Hardy but if nothing else he will take over Norwood's role in the 3-4 looks at outside backer and could wreak havoc as a pass rusher there.

Speaking of different looks, another area i see a huge improvement in should be our buffalo Nickel package where we roll with 3 safeties, I think we will never have to see Pugh flounder around out there again with the addition of Reggie Smith and Nakumara.

Nice post. This actually makes me a happier person.

Last year was like Open tryouts for most of the year. Both our offense and Defense should be better. Also a lot of the rookie mistakes made by Rivera will be gone.
