Signing Bonuses for UDFAs

According to that buttmunch Florio, the Panthers are giving out some steep signing bonuses, relatively speaking, to get some of these UDFAs in here.

I haven't called anyone a buttmunch in years. That felt good.

probably but we don't have to pare it down to that until towards the end of TC so right now it wouldn't matter much.

Signing bonuses count against the cap (even between March 1 and the beginning of the season) even if said player is not in the top 51. In other words ALL signing bonuses count.

I think its a good idea to give these guys sizeable bonuses. They are coming out of college and have no money, no job, its not like we are giving them millions

I always thought it was top 53 cap numbers count against cap. But yea if these guys can pan out we will have depth or atleast practice squad/ project material.

I think we are just trying to get solid depth talent wise.

Some of these guys can/will make the team, or will be stashed on the practice squad for later.

If you're the 80th paid player and got a signing bonus it counts against the cap.

The bonuses count, it's the top 53 paid salaries that are counted. Salaries after that don't count in the preseason and off season.

We are paying signing bonuses to those we really want and expect to keep. If that is what it takes in order to land a prized UDFA, it seems a small price to pay.
