Keuchly Told He Will Start At Wlb

Lets not play that game. Gaints get a guy in rounds 1-3 almost everyear, and thats with not having one of the worst D-line in the league.

From the 2002-2011 draft, a 10 year span. The Giants drafted 8 D lineman in the first three rounds. The Panthers drafted 7. In the 2012 draft neither team drafted D lineman until day 3. So far the Giants had a few guys pan out. They won the Superbowl with Michael Strahan who had been with the team since the early 90s. If you want to sit here and say they do a better job drafting and developing I would agree. However the Panthers have drafted just as many.

They've had ONE good D-line pick in the first 3 rounds in the last 7 years, since they took Tuck in the 3rd in 2005, and thats JPP. You are 100% complete and totally talking out of your ass. Dear lord you suck.

If anything, I'd say we have developed more D-line talent over the same time span than the Giants have.

I'd say 2 of our guys really did well. CJ and Pepp. Fua and McClain still have a chance. The other three would be Atiyah Ellison, Corvey Irvin, and Everette Brown. We have had some luck with late round guys and free agents. It's only the last three years our Dline has fallen apart. The last two it was weak by design. Like coach Ron said: we are going to get beat up this year, but soon we will grow up and start punching back.

What are we calling good? Because around here Neblett, Fua, McClain, Shirley, and Kearse are good. And if we are going to be calling those guys good you can't say any of those draft picks are not good. If you want me to name you a ten sack guy then no I can't do it other than Kiwanuka who had a good year one year Osi went down.

The only guy who doesn't look good yet is Sintim. And he is a pass rusher moved to LBer

Kiwanuka has 10 sack potentail but since they are so stacked they put him at LBer

Austin was injured before the year started.

Joseph looks good

Alford looked to be a future starter before injury.

Then there is Tuck and JPP who count as being drafted in the high round as Giants. I get what you are trying to say, but you cant not include two of the best just because the guys drafted between those two aren't up to their level. The more picks at a position the more chances of getting an elite talent. Other than QB, pass rushers are next on the list for getting elite talent.

Rules started changing in 2004. Teams had a chance to evaluate the changes in 2005, so start from there. And it is Giants 7 to Panthers 5. That is with our pass rush dropping every year while they remain at the top. Plus our highest is a 2nd and four 3rd while they have two first, three seconds, and two thirds. They invested more in passrushers than we have.

mcdermott's defensive scheme doesn't require interior linemen that are penetrating pass rushers. their job is to hog lineman and control gaps as necessary while keeping blockers out of open space.

unless you are willing to debate mcdermott's philosophy versus NYG's you should probably jump ship on this argument.

actually 4-3 defenses need to have flexible lines that can do what the particular assignment is for a play whether it's rush the pass or help linebackers make plays on the run

it's not the 90s anymore. if we've learned anything from having kemo play for us it is that you need to be able to do more than just one thing when you're in there to be effective

What I said was that they have only had one good D-line pick in the first three rounds over the last 7 years and that's JPP. The last D-line starter that they picked before him was Tuck way back in 2005. These are facts. Whether or not you want to believe that their trash is better than our trash is irrelevant because neither see the field, and our drafted trash has had better statistical performance than their drafted trash.

Those are not the facts as Kiwanuka, and Joseph both see the field as starters. Austin didn't get a chance due to injury, and Alford looked to be on track as a starter level player before he tore his MCL and ACL.

Lets not get away from the big picture hear either. The Giants invest in all the right positions. The reason the Giants have a better D-Line is because they have invested more in it even though they don't have the need as much as we do. If we had signed Canty and Bernard everyone would be saying we are set. Tuck and JPP were investments that really paid off. Both are rare players and it would be foolish to think it is common to get that level of talent with regularity. But to get them you have to try.

I think the quote was misunderstood, sounds more to me like they will try him at both spots, just that they will try wlb first... And for those under the misconception that Kuechly will be battling for a starting position should realize that he is gonna start game one and IMHO at MLB.

this is true, also in a JJ scheme defense the 3 tech is still supposed to be a penetrator and disruptor. and just cause you are doing those assignments doesnt mean you are not still taking on multiple blockers to free up the LBs. in a passing situation you want to get a push from the inside and not have your DTs just taking blockers on.

Last season, I watched Jim Johnson’s defense sack Ben Roethlisberger 9 times in a 15-6 Eagles win. Johnson understood that when there was a single high safety in coverage, the Steelers were not going to account for a blitz from the slot since there was nobody who could cover the slot WR if the Eagles were to blitz. Instead Johnson came up with a blitz package that gave the Steelers fits and forced them to change some of their protections in the future to prevent other teams from doing the same thing to them.

EaglesBlitz.JPG

* Notice that Johnson’s defense would crowd the LBs into the “A gaps”. He knew that Pittsburgh would have their center block the LB to the right and the running back was responsible for the LB on the left.

* You’ll notice that pre-snap, there is no help for the CB who is coming off the slot on a blitz.

* Johnson would blitz the LB on the left which forced the RB to step up and pick him up, but he would have the other LB sprint to help cover the slot WR. Johnson created a scenario where the slot CB would fly in untouched.

http://blog.chron.com/fantasyfootball/2009/07/jim-johnson-might-be-gone-but-here-are-examples-of-his-greatness/

found a simple blitz that i do remember us running some last year that shows the 3 tech is still providing penatration from the inside and the CB/nickel guy coming on a blitz from the outside. which i think Captain does best and since i think he is a liabilty in coverage he will keep blitzing from the nickel spot unless he gets beat out.
