Hairdresser to the stars Vidal Sassoon died today at age 84.

Sassoon was unique among hair stylists for garnering an international celebrity clientele and, frankly, for being commercial and pushy. He turned his business into an empire that was soon copied by Jean Paul Mitchell, John Frieda and others.
