Why Do Some Of You Guys Still Have Doubts About Brandon Lafell?

LaFell is a number 2 receiver and played like one at the end of the year. He is not good enough to be a number 1 like Moose was when Smitty went down in 2004. He can do well against a number 2 corner or a safety but isn't good enough to go against a number 1 corner. Lets see what happens down the road but he improved from year 1 to 2. He only got 36 catches but did average 17 yards a catch.

This.

Except he could have a year like Moose had once. Most really good possession/#2 WR can have a really great season but not something they can do year in and year out.

Unlike Kerry Colbert or Dwayne Jerrett, Brandon LaFell stepped up! Not only did he step up, he stepped up when we needed him and made some amazing catches on key downs. That was my biggest knock on Nannee, he couldn't come through on key downs.

kerry colbert stepped up big his rookie year.

amazing how that's forgotten.

as to why he regressed, we'll never know.

Gonna be pretty hard to put up almost 1k yards when your not the number 1 receiver imo.

Esp considering how we use our TE's and also with Williams and Stew on the team.

Im more concerned with Lafell getting open and making catches when needed / thrown to

And last year he did just that.

1000 from smitty.

if we get more than 800 from olsen, I'd be impressed and thrilled.

that leaves over 2000 yards between other receivers and our runnimg backs.

so tell me why 800 yards is a lot to ask for.

LaFell is a nice player but he doesn't have elite athleticism. ESPN/NFLN are looking for the Panther to get a legit no.1 to replace Steve in the next few years. If you draft one the three year rule applies so the sooner the better.

LaFell is a nice no.2 in my opinion. There were times last year were he got open by sitting down in the zones. He did a nice job but he couldn't beat people over the top or break away for a TD. Don't even bring up the 91 yrd TD. The safety gambled and still almost caught him.

Some people think Gettis can be that guy to go deep but we really don't know. He had a mediocre rookie season on a super bad team and then blew out his knee. I rather get a real talented guy in here than depend on a 6th round pick coming of knee surgery.

Adding talent at WR is never a bad thing. Green Bay went 15-1 with all the guys they have.

That amazing grab he had against the bucs at home was something that only a legit NFL receiver could make.

not to mention the 2 vs GB. the first TD and the one late in the game where he managed to get both feet down. incredible, close-as-you're-going-to-get type catches.

Neither did Jerry Rice, Mavin Harrison, or Hines Ward. Not every top WR has elite speed or size.

An while people on here are dogging Lafell I wish we also mention the Bad situations he was put in during his short career.

1. The worst Offense in the League his 1st year.

2. A lockout and new coaching staff while trying to learn a new offensive system with a rookie QB. All while trying to battle up the depth chart and being the 4-5 option on most pass plays.

Lafell made some big time catches last year. The jump ball he caught against Greenbay on the sideline, the 4th & 16 he converted against the Vikings, and of course the TD pass against the Bucs.

My only concern with Lafell is, will he be able to stretch the field, which will be needed as a #2 WR.

FYI - I don't think he needs elite speed to stretch the field either. Larry Fitzgerald doesn't have elite speed and he stretches the field just fine.
