How The Panthers Offseason Fits The Changing Nfl Game

Recommended Posts

There's an alternate theory of how to deal with changing offenses, one that the Giants employ go great success.

Most posters on here couldn't name a single Giants linebacker, and to be fair none of them are worth mentioning.

The other theory is just to load up your defensive line with as many pipe hitting niggas as you can find and blow poo up before that tight end gets to the third level.

It's what I wished the Panthers would do but Hurney is stuck in his ways. Sigh.

Maybe that is why NY had one is the worst ranked Ds in the NFL last year....they had diddly poo after there front 4

27th ranked D

25th if you want to go off pts and not yards

I have a few issues with these articles.

OT losing importance: Maybe, in certain offenses, but not in the O that Chud wants to run here. A Coryell style where we should be taking multiple 5 and 7 step drops, and throwing the ball down field.

In a Brady/Brees short passing attack O, I can somewhat agree, that the interior is not just as important at the outside, as they normally drop 3 and 5 steps, and rarely throw the ball well down the field.

RB importance: I have never ever questioned the importance of RB's. What I have questioned was our, and many other NFL teams desire for that "bell cow" RB. The kind that you take in the first round, or over pay for in FA, like we have been known to do.

IMO, since he was on the roster, and under contract, and is a "starter" we should have kept Stew, and gone after a Sproles type player, and let Fox sign DWill to that stupid contract in Denver. Can DWill catch out of the backfield, heck yes. Is he as good as Sproles, heck no.

RB's are as important as ever, but you don't have to spend major bucks on them to be successful. You just have to scheme, and bring in a certain type of back.

Look up the injuries they suffered on defense last year.

we suffered injuries, the Texans (who were the #1 D most of the year) suffered injuries....

If DL is the end all be all to such a large degree....losing a CB or 2 shouldn't make you one of the worst Ds in the league.

ILB's: Having a great LB corps is awesome, if you run the 34. However, if you will notice, almost all LB's can be seen dragging down Graham, Gates, and Finley, after the catch is made, and they are 11 yards down the field.

Is it better than them streaking for a TD, yup. However with the rules the way they are, LB's can't use their best attribute to defend the pass. (strength) They almost can't touch those guys until they have the ball in their hands.

IMO it's better to muddy the pocket from the center, make the QB get off his "spot" and render the throw across his body/middle of the field to the TE a dangerous one. Not to hope that a LB can cover a 6'6 260 lb athletic freak.

The panthers defense was going to e awful regardless of whether or not Beason as Davis made it. The only question was how awful.

The texans had like one significant injury on defense, a guy so important they didn't even try to resign. Their defensive ranking was buoyed by the fact they got six games against the titans, Curtis painter, and Blinger.

You're not arguing in good faith if you boil the giants injuries down "to one qb."

The Panthers D wasn't awful with Clausen screwing them over all game every game.

I think Edwards, Beason, Davis had an impact and I think those injuries forced him not to run his scheme.

Oh my god you've literally never seen Ron Edwards play a game in your life.

I cannot believe I've actually been trolled into defending the defense that beat Tom Brady in the super bowl and shut out a team in the playoffs.

LOL. Yeah, bc not having a middle of the road vet DT had no impact on this team did it? Edwards isn't a Beason, Davis type player....but what he provided was needed. Look at prior seasons and the impact garbage vets like Thomas, Kemo had.

playing a couple good games doesn't make you great at something....Giants were one of the worst defenses in the NFL last year OVERALL. Winning the Superbowl didnt erase what they were last year.

Giants D sucked last year. Stepped up late with some nice performances. They shutdown the Atlanta Falcons....that was a fluke.

Giants flat out got lucky as GB shot themselves in the foot all game.
