I was going to skip the amendment vote (but vote in the other elections) just because I think its a silly thing to change the state constitution to outlaw something thats already illegal. I ended up voting against it. But I was probably one of the few in my polling place.

I did vote in most of the local elections, but I skipped a few (like school board because I had no clue who any of them were).

Why don't you do some damn research. The whole Homosexual aspect of the amendment is a front because they know old people and bible thumpers are the main voters in NC. This is outlawing any common law marriage and union. SMH

So people should be allowed benefits of marriage without actually being married. Makes sense.

This also removes certain domestic violence protections for people who aren't legally married as well as completely cluster fugs child custody issues.

Why don't you use some damn common sense before you spew out nonsensical crap. The point of the law was to use it as a political issue to rally the troops for outlawing gay marriage. If the amendment passes, the other things that people are worried about will eventually be settled by the state supreme court, and likely to the point that nothing really changes in regard to cohabitation and domestic violence. The text that was added to the amendment in sep of this year will still allow couples to enter into contracts if they are not married. The amendment should never have been put on the ballot because the legislature shouldn't be screwing with constitution to gain political points.
