Update: my son has also pissed off and lied to all his friends to the point that no one will bail him out. He is still in jail and will probable stay there until his court date next week.

Your first priority has to be your daughters. His behavior is setting a bad example for them. No reason to think he has the maturity to not to draw them into his problems.

Chances are the high school councilors have dealt with this type of situation plenty of times. I would contact them to find out about any local or regional programs available to help troubled youth 16-18 years old in transitioning to the adult world.

We have one up here called the Alaska Military Youth Academy where councilors, teachers and National Guard members run a 22 week high school / boot camp. Students live in dorms and have their days filled with school / PT/ and duties. At the end, they graduate in a formal ceremony with a real sense of accomplishment / self worth. Many earn enough credits for a H.S. diploma / GED and go on to join the military upon graduation.

There is no cost to the child or his / her family

Here is the same program in NC.

i would never listen to any sort of command given by my step-father

hope this helps

Same. Just saying.

Hell after my pop died i didn't listen to anyone for about 20 years or so. I'm calmed down quite a bit over the past couple of years now.

Not a step father.

But I've seen them in action.

Bottom line, you dont have to love me, but you do have to respect me.

i'll respect him. i won't talk down to him or anything like that. i'd even do him a favor. just sayin, if he tried to order me to do something it wouldn't happen.

I went through the same thing many years ago, and you just have to let them fug themselves up but tell them if they get themselves straight you will be willing to help them - AFTER they have regained your trust. Tell him that the longer he waits the worse it will get for him to straighten out.

Excellent advice.

He was in a Death Metal band. Some of the worst music i have ever heard. He was kicked out of the band a few weeks ago. When i asked him why he got kicked out, he said they told him he was lazy always late to shows and practice and never helped them set up or tare down. I said damn, that sounds just like you. Lol. He said he was a vocalist and didnt have to do any of that stuff. Kid must think he is making millions for his band or something. Haha

He is moving in with his grandparents this weekend. They are going to give it a try. As far as the people talking about not listening to a step father, i get what you are saying but our situation is different. His Dad kicked him and his mom out while they were living in New Mexico when he was 1. Because he had found a new girlfriend. He now lives in Cali and may talk to him every 3 or 4 months. I am really the only dad he has ever had and i am not trying to sound any kind of way here but i kinda changed his life in a really good way when i got with his mom. He has lived a much more comfortable lifestyle sinse i came into his life.
