I Started To Post This In The Jacoby Jones Thread, But Thought Wth.

I hate when people try to act like Mr. Know-it-alls all the time. Jones would be 4th at best on our depth chart. It's not debatable.

It is easily debatable. Gettis has never proven to be overall as good as Jones....and Gettis is coming of an injury.

We picked up Tolbert for this very reason, to be a receiving back. Why people are so obsessed with WR when it comes to our passing game always surprises me. We have some very dangerous weapons at the HB and TE position that will emphasize our young and emerging WR group. Smith is always counted on to do the heavy lifting in that group, but with the way LaFell played last season, especially in his starts once Nanee was demoted, I am entirely confident in his ability to catch passes in this offense. 600 yards is no joke. David Gettis coming back will prove to be a big boost too.

Shake the idea that we need a traditional WR 1, WR 2, and WR 3 and embrace the fact that Cam Newton will spread the ball around to TE, H-Backs, and RB enough to make our passing offense better than the sum of its parts. With that said, I still think a player will emerge from this group and really embrace the opportunity. My money is on LaFell.

We also picked up Tolbert to aid on the goal line. Leading the way for RBs bc that is the one area Cam doesn't need to get hit as much and caught in piles.

We also picked him up bc he can pass protect. So Cam can throw downfield on 3rd down.

In my opinion Jacoby Jones hasn't proven he is better than David Gettis either.

Gettis put up nearly 40 receptions for 500+ yards and three touchdowns with a quarterback combination of Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen, and Brian St. Pierre. That is something to be amazed at in and of itself.

Jones has proven to be a better overall WR to date. That doesn't make him a badass

Gettis really wasn't impressive outside of running a deep route in one on one coverage as a defense feel asleep to our pathetic offense.

Too much emphasis on 4 plays with Gettis. Yeah, he is fast... But his overall game looked weak as a rookie. LaFell always looked more well rounded

His route running may not be polished yet but he still stretches the field just as well Jones, averaging 13.7 yards per receptions in his rookie year.

More than that...Jones uses his body better when asked to do something besides run a deep vertical.

Jones is okay. Not good enough not to just roll with who we got and see if someone develops.

Gettis is just overhyped. Has potential. Not yet what many claim he is. More of a one trick pony thus far.

You know what, if Smith goes down, I would'nt be too worried. Here's why:

1) Olsen (if healthy) will become our #1 catching threat and as we've seen you can be successful with a stud TE, which I think Olsen is. If Shockey is resigned then we have 2 good TEs we can focus the passing plays around. Won't count on Barnidge till I see him play.

2) I think we will also run the ball more and with our triple threat in the backfield we can be dangerous there as well.

3) With all the attention the Rbs will be getting(stacking the box) as well as our TEs, this can open up things specifically for Gettis on the deep route and LaFell as well.

Maybe I'm delusional but if only Smith goes down, I think our offense will be fine.

he'd be competition at WR and returner. how can that be a bad thing?

i can understand if you are a fan of someone already on the team that you would be reluctant to anyone coming in who might take an opportunity away from them, but if you are a fan of the team then you should be interested in bringing in anyone who can make what we have better.

competition is good. will jacoby jones or braylon edwards do any better than what we have? will they make the offense better? anyone saying they definitively know one way or the other is delusional. if we can get them or anyone else at any position in at a reasonable price and us stay under the cap then we should do it.

i don't care who is on the roster as long as they help the team and we've done due diligence in trying to shore up that position.

If Smith goes down, than Jocoby Jones isn't going to make a difference. He's not a bad option but I just don't think there is room for him. We've got several of players of his caliber that are our own who could continue to become greater than he.

I would be fine with him but doesn't seem to be a huge need to me.

Makes perfect sense to me.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
