It doesn't hurt to look but........

LaFell>Jones

Gettis>Jones

60% of our WR core>Jones

I would rather have us bring in FA WR Braylon Edwards for cheap than him.

I would rather them replace Edwards, err bring in Edwards too, but competition is competition.

And, it's not like we'll have to break the bank for either of them (or both of them),

The guy has had 5 yrs in the league playing along side A. Johnson (top 3-5 WR in the NFL) and can only produce a lil over 500 yrd seasons, LaFell had 615 last year with clutch catches for us. David Gettis did that with no QB & horrific Offensive play calling.

I would just us rather spend money on other things than a guy who is better than proven guys on our roster and take reps away the younger more talented WR's we have on our roster.

Jones can't hang with the guys on our roster he couldn't beat out some wack talent in Houston, give that money to better talent for cheap or re-sign J-Stew

That's debatable. Some certainly think that he has the skill to be. If LaFell is a WR2, then Jones is a WR2. Now, if you're telling me that Jones isn't a WR2, then who on our team is a WR2? Just which one of our WRs has himself from the pack (as in not only the Panthers' pack, but the somewhat meager free agent pack)? I can better see Popcorn's view because at least he is thinking that there may be someone with more viability and/or believability that comes available in the summer.

We don't have the luxury of resting on our laurels, because if Smitty goes down we'll be close to resting in daisies.

Jacoby hasn't even cracked 600 yards in his career.....at all. Brandon lafell has gotten better each year and still has potential and so does Gettis.

We picked up Tolbert for this very reason, to be a receiving back. Why people are so obsessed with WR when it comes to our passing game always surprises me. We have some very dangerous weapons at the HB and TE position that will emphasize our young and emerging WR group. Smith is always counted on to do the heavy lifting in that group, but with the way LaFell played last season, especially in his starts once Nanee was demoted, I am entirely confident in his ability to catch passes in this offense. 600 yards is no joke. David Gettis coming back will prove to be a big boost too.

Shake the idea that we need a traditional WR 1, WR 2, and WR 3 and embrace the fact that Cam Newton will spread the ball around to TE, H-Backs, and RB enough to make our passing offense better than the sum of its parts. With that said, I still think a player will emerge from this group and really embrace the opportunity. My money is on LaFell.

spreading the ball around should not stop you from bringing in talent, who knows the zone blcoking west coast system might not be for him. if he impresses sign him for the vet min and let him compete. with his speed and size the vertical game could do him some justice.

Yeah, we picked up Tolbert for a reason (preparing for the future...), and it wasn't just because he can catch passes and take the place of a traditional wide-out. I respect the fact that we can have a semblance of success airing it out to RBs and TEs, but I would think that it would be way better to have a known viable threat on the opposite side of Steve Smith than what we had last year. It would just make for a more complete offense---make it that much more difficult for opposing defenses to overcome our overall growing offensive juggernaut.

In the end, I still don't believe that all the H-backs and TEs in the world will help us if Smitty were to be out for any appreciable amount of time (and/or at the wrong time).

In general I see us bringing in another wr.I just hope it is one that brings something different to the table.I think it would make sense to either bring in a big fast guy that can produce mismatches. To me its not about LaFell or his contributions but someone that fits Chuds scheme and create mismatches.I have no idea how they have Gettis rated at this point.

I'm indifferent on this situation.

On one hand I want the Panthers to sign Jacoby Jones because he is a deep threat and he provides great depth to what would be a solid receiving corp with Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell, Jacoby Jones, David Gettis, and Joe Adams. Jones would also be a great wide receiver to fall back on if David Gettis doesn't return to full form coming off of his ACL injury.

On the other hand, signing Jacoby Jones would eliminate the possibility of keeping Chris Manno, Jared Green, or Armanti Edwards. Also, Jacoby would be brought in to do exactly what Gettis is in Carolina for and that is to stretch the field. I feel like signing Jones would take away playing time and productivity from LaFell and Gettis which I don't think is a wise decision.
