I Started To Post This In The Jacoby Jones Thread, But Thought Wth.

For all the negative reaction to the Jacoby Jones visit. For those of you who may be confused and/or having a pretty much meh attitude regarding bringing in receivers in general, you must believe that we have a pretty darn solid WR corps. I mean many of you have pretty much said this in so many words when the "great" debates before the draft pervaded the Huddle. Well to me that same old truth reminiscent of the John Fox era still exists in my opinion:

We are but one Smitty away from a disjointed, Humpty Dumpty receiving corps.

Yeah, maybe Gettis comes back and continues where he left off (which where he was is still awash in question marks). Yeah, LaFell showed good potential as a WR2 or WR3. Even some may fool themselves into believing that he is what I'll refer to as a quasi WR1. Perhaps a smallish Joe Adams can do an impression of Smitty (Jr.), but can you really count on that? Maybe one of those other guys will emerge as a valid threat, like Pilares or Green in their second and first year, respectively. That makes for great odds...Anyway.

So I say a vet Like a Jacoby Jones who has played in a WR2 position, or even a suspect Braylon Edwards who really is probably closer to a quasi WR1 than our own LaFell may not be the idealistic option, but either one would could possibly be an upgrade to what we already have. At the very least, I would think that they would help steady a WR corps that would appear to be on the shaky side if Smith would have to be out for any appreciable amount of time. I just don't see why anyone would be so negative about it considering the circumstances---all the question marks.

As long as we can sign him to a vet minimum deal with little guaranteed money, why not. It makes more sense to bring in guys now when we have the leverage and can get them for little to nothing rather than wait until we have someone go down and need a guy in week 2. Then they know we need them and the leverage swings back the other way. Better to have moree guys thhan we need so we can cut them if necessary with little consequence.

Jones isn't a number 2 WR.....................

That's debatable. Some certainly think that he has the skill to be. If LaFell is a WR2, then Jones is a WR2. Now, if you're telling me that Jones isn't a WR2, then who on our team is a WR2? Just which one of our WRs has distinguished himself from the pack (as in not only the Panthers' pack, but the somewhat meager free agent pack)? I can better see Popcorn's view because at least he is thinking that there may be someone with more viability and/or believability that comes available in the summer.

We don't have the luxury of resting on our laurels, because if Smitty goes down we'll be close to resting in daisies.
