Jacoby Jones Visiting Panthers

If Gettis is back to his old self then he will be competing for the starting job with LaFell.. don't you remember those 2 were battling in training camp last season? Gettis actually had a leg up on LaFell before his injury. Not sure why you think he is on the bubble.

Think back now, because it really isn't too much of a stretch. Wallace Wright was competing with both of them once upon a time. He got hurt, and the bubble burst.

I think it has less to do with what LaFell offers and more to do with the type receiver we may want to use in different schemes and that will play to Cams strengths. Having said that I am surprised that JJones is a guy we brought in though I admit I do not know the type of receiver he is.My guess they would like a down field burner to open the offense even more.Given his injury Gettis may or may not be that guy.

Wallace Wright was never competing for a starting spot. He was competing for a roster spot, period.

All I'm saying is he will have to prove it like the rest of them. Smith and La fell are safe bit that's it. IMO though he will do very well.

Yea, I agree with that. If Gettis isn't performing well due to injury in training camp, they will probably IR him again. I don't think they will cut him at this point, he showed too much upside. They'd have to give him another season to heal up.. I believe he will be nearly 100% and compete with LaFell though.

Gettis said in his interview that he has all of his speed back, but he is having trouble cutting. Gettis is able to run Go routes, and we are a vertical offense, so I think he will be an asset to our offense.

He didn't say he "is having trouble cutting", he said those are the things you worry about and need to work on the most, to make sure you're 100%. If he'd have said he was "having trouble" cutting, then there's no way he'd be saying he can contribute right now, and he thinks he can.

This is a dumb post, and I knew someone would post it. Lafell never "exploded away" from any defender, and that's even on the 99 yard TD. He was gased, got walked down, and never would've made it without a key Smitty block. Same thing happened against the Vikings. Gased, walked down. He doesn't have breakaway speed.

Lafell seems to have pretty good hands, but his limited speed means he'll probably always be the third WR, with faster guys next to him.

Why bring in a guy to compete if we already have the same guy on the roster?

He said he feels he will be ready to contribute by training camp. He never said he could contribute 'right now'. He is working on cutting because he doesn't feel comfortable with that right now. That's very typical with acl tears, and he said he is ahead of schedule as far as that is concerned. I don't think I said anything misleading in my statement. "Having trouble cutting", because indeed he is. Did he say that verbatim? No, but it's implied that he's not where he needs to be revolving cutting.
