Deangelo Williams On Vilma Suspension

It's funny because earlier in the year DeAngelo said on one of his weekly webcasts after the first Saints game that the only team he truly hates in the NFL is the Saints, because they play dirty.

He talked about how they kept diving for his legs as he ran out of bounds.

To be honest I would have suspended Vilma for 8 games. A failed drug test is 4. Beating up a teammate is 2. Raping a girl in a bar is 6. Dog fighting was 4? Taking an entire year away from a guy is extreme, unless it was with pay. I hate Vilma but still it's harsh.

He put out two ten thousand dollar contracts on opposing QBs.

Id say a year is about right...

A very truthful response that is representative of the players. They take care of their business on the field so they will never understand how this suspension happened. But that doesn't mean Goodell didn't make the correct decision for the league.

Williams response was; "a very political response".

DeAngelo is right, the Pats got off way too easy, but this Saints thing is on a whole different level because the Saints lied about the existence of the bounty program and then continued it.

Keep in mind that 2 years ago the NFL confronted the Saints about this and told them to put a stop to it. At that point, the Saints could have gotten away with no punishment at all if they had put a stop to it.

If the Pats had continued video taping for another 2 years after they were initially caught, Goodell would have had no choice but to drop the hammer on them as well.

I personally think that Deangelo was just surprised that Vilma got a year when in comparison the Pats flat out cheated and got a slap on the wrist.

There are a lot of people making millions of dollars playing /coaching/ managing in this game.

When the commish says to a douchebag visor wearing coach (who is fortunate enough to make 7 million dollars a year doing something he loves), "Hey, douche. We have lawsuits coming in left and right. Your team has a rep for playing dirty and running bounties, we need you to knock it off so that the money truck continues to stop at our mansions every day. Thanks, Chief.

Love Roger."

Sean said, "No problem, Rog." Then continues to do it. What would you as commish do, knowing that Gregg Williams speech is going to get played at every injury hearing?

I don't see it that way at all. What was it a twitter? Was he even asked a question? I think a political response would actually make a little more sense.....that's just him posting is thoughts somewhere.

It doesn't surprise me that players aren't fanatical.

As far as Vilma goes I just look back on his cheap shot to Smith last year and am reminded on what a bitch Karma is.

Are you referring to Harper?

It doesn't matter to me wether it was a twitter, text or email, he responded simply to respond. Not that he had anything to add, not that he wanted to voice his support one way or the other, it was a political response. One that won't offend Vilma or the NFL and yes his political response was just him posting his thoughts...

So all the players on Twitter today just are saying the same thing so they don't offend 4 players? Get real. I know it may hurt you, but most players feel the same way on this issue. It doesn't make it right but they can never see how stuff said in the locker room could cause them to get a year suspension.

Unless you put a pool together to take out each others futures....

I don't think most players care though unless they felt personally threatened. For the most part if players try that on the field, there are repercussions.
