as someone who has actually been affected deeply by suicide i would rather not hear people talk about how selfishness is somehow relevant in the events leading up to the act. it's like saying someone commits murder because they are cranky. it is such a gross simplification as to be utterly useless if you actually want to talk about what's going on.

Who are you to question someone dealing with a mental illness?

Are you an expert in dealing with this? Where is your psychology degree from?

I have a health degree and I can fuging promise you that mental health is one of the most neglected fields of medicine in the United States. It's nothing new, either. 50 years ago the answer to depression or mental illness was a lobotomy. 75 years ago it was just to stash the mentally ill in a room and throw away the key.

It's obviously better than it once was, but mental illness is nothing to joke around about. It is just as devastating as cancer or a broken arm and can be very difficult for not only the person but the person's family. Go have a discussion with someone who has a close family member with a bipolar disorder. Ask them what's it like when that person is on a manic episode.

My step-mom has a severe bipolar manic-depressive disorder that didn't come fully to light until after she gave birth to my half sister. When she has a manic episode it's fuging nuts. She is literally in another world, no grasp on reality whatsoever.

Then the police spokesperson just said it is being investigated as a suicide.

Said his girlfriend found him and called the police.

The police said a gun was found near the body and when responders got there they actually performed life-saving methods, but were unable to resuscitate him.

His mom said she just talked to him a few days ago and nothing was wrong. He sent out messages to his 3 children and ex-wife saying love you, they responded.

Also, the cops aren't answering whether the girlfriend is still on the scene.

Just something to think about as his mom suggested someone else did it, but it could just be tough to accept that he did it himself.

I hope it was suicide honestly. When I heard the police responded in big numbers I wondered if he had hurt someone and once surrounded took his life to avoid arrest. And surely no one wants foul play. I feel for his family, when someone suicides or is killed, it is the family that suffers. Plenty of guilt to go around about what they should have done. It shows that no amount of money or fame insulates you from suffering the miseries of every day life.

Yeah, sorry to hear it.

I've heard that when the manic episode occurs, the person blacks out. A lot of homeless people are mentally ill.

I don't like how movies sensationalize a lot stuff but A Beautiful Mind is a good film to watch. Sure, it's hollywood bullshit but it is at least based on a true story.

Yeah, it turned her into this evil bitter loathsome bitch, because she never remembers any part of it happening. She, for years, blamed my dad for some conspiracy against her. That he was convincing her family that she was crazy and putting her into the hospital for no reason. So she didn't think that she needed to take her medicine and would secretly stop taking it and and it would all repeat. She probably had 15 really bad manic episodes before she finally decided to take her medicine without argument. She's still a loony evil bitch though.
