massive traumatic brain injuries will do weird things to you, this isn't exactly uncharted territory... I think douchebag is a bit presumptuous.

Yeah maybe so...

I just have a hard time with suicide and people who choose it.

I work in mental health. I see it day in and day out and I know what can come with mental illness.

I could get up from my desk and walk down the hall and ask no less than 6 phDs(in various mental health fields) their thoughs on mental health and suicide.

Hell if anything my decade in this industry has reduced my compasion for people who make that choice.

But since this is looking like a thread hijack Im done.

RIP Junior.

Hate it for his family and his friends and his fans.

But suicide is a shitty thing to do to those folks you claim to love.

Great player and by all accounts a great man whos last act was to be a douchebag.

Let's not pretend we know what was going on inside his head. No need to judge someone on something you don't know anything about. "If i were him, I wouldn't have committed suicide" is just a dumb thing to think.

And I hate sensationalism, but I really think this is going to bring the NFL under scrutiny from well-outside of their own authority. Seau was one of the NFLs biggest stars, and to be such a well-respected person off of the field and to be found dead at 43 from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound?

This isn't going to sit well with people.

RIP Junior. Should put the NFLPA's priorities in better order. Better support for the former players, please. Better protection for current players, please. Forget trash like Vilma.

I do believe that suicide is the most selfish act in human history. Mental illness does help explain it but it remains a selfish, self-centered act none the less.

Clearly mental illness is not something most people can understand or relate to.

So sad to see Junior leave this world too early.

Boom.

I have a health degree and I can fuging promise you that mental health is one of the most neglected fields of medicine in the United States. It's nothing new, either. 50 years ago the answer to depression or mental illness was a lobotomy. 75 years ago it was just to stash the mentally ill in a room and throw away the key.

It's obviously better than it once was, but mental illness is nothing to joke around about. It is just as devastating as cancer or a broken arm and can be very difficult for not only the person but the person's family. Go have a discussion with someone who has a close family member with a bipolar disorder. Ask them what's it like when that person is on a manic episode.
