I'm kind of on the fence. I don't mind the raise awareness and gesture part of it. Buy what exactly are they raising awareness for? Reading that article I did not become more aware of how to prevent spinal injuries.

Will he be cut before training camp so an able bodied deserving player can get some playing time in a preseason game? If so I am cool with it. But making a nice gesture for one guy is taking an opportunity away from another. If I were Schiano I would hire this guy to a full time position. It could be community outreach or even quality control. Or have him travel the country speaking for the NFL.

C'Mon man, to help improve rehabilitation techniques maybe. Cures do not exist for physical injuries only prevention and rehabilitation.

While were at it, lets find a cure for concussions.

That article is a textbook example of why sports journalism is the bottom of the barrel of an already very weak profession.
