Can We Stop Pretending That Ron Edwards Is Anything Special

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen a lot of Edwards so I'll have to wait till I actually see him in a game, as far as Kearse goes, he did well last year and look forward to seeing him again. But now that RR and Hurney put him on front street, Huddlers are all over him. All I can say is that I hope you're all right. I'd like to see Edwards and Kearse start and mix in Neblett, McClain. To give Edwards a breather, swap him out with Fua and Shirley to keep him fresh.

just my view while putting aside fan speculation and generating discussions on message boards for a second,

All Rivera can do is go by what he sees and find out what he gets.. Based on his resume, all fans can do is feel hopeful based on how the coach feels, or not.. I don't know if I buy in on whether fans can be right or wrong on the issue more so than feeling hopeful or not and letting the results dictate which truth will unfold.. If I went over actual game film, I may have a better idea on what I see but without seeing that player in practice, I don't know if I can make a real determination on that player's potential growth and whether that tells me if they have a future or not..

but since this is a message board and all we can do is view from the outside, all our discussions are just a gut reaction to what we see on Sunday's and try to entertain ourselves along the way via message board discussions... Although I do thoroughly believe certain people have a better understanding on what they see than others..

And you're saying what?

And you're saying what?

basically, if fans choose to trust Rivera, so be it.. if they don't, so be it.. but those opinions have 1/16 the access to real information than the coaches so I don't view fans opinions so much as right/wrong as I do they guessed right/wrong..

of course, there is such a thing as being highly emotional and fail to use any reason..

Edwards is a serviceable DT.. I venture to say you can't find anyone who has said otherwise, which most likely makes this thread obsolete... along with your other points:

Fua and McClain were simply asked to gain experience last year, per Ron Rivera.. Also, Aubrayo Franklin is a kin to bringing in Ron Edwards to play the NT role than comparing him to McClain... Franklin is also more likely to miss time due to his knees than Edwards is from torn triceps..

and people pied this? really? I guess hating on the DT position is more important regardless if the OP has a point or not...

I agree. Seriously, find me one post on here where someone said Edwards is anything more than serviceable stop-gap measure. He will make the D-line better, but he's not going to light it up, and no one has indicated otherwise.

The OP is offering a classic straw-man argument, which is basically useless. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

The real debate is whether our current DT's are sufficient to improve our defense this year.

To simplify the debate, one side feels that with the return of Edwards, the progression of our rookie DTs, and the guys we found last year, we're OKAY at DT. That is, the position is not so bad as to substantially hurt our ability to win games.

The other side believes that Edwards was never spectacular, the rookies showed they aren't that great last year, and the players we found that last year won't be impact additions. This means the failure to address the DT position so far in the offseason is a shortcoming that will potentially cost us games this year.

The fact is that both sides have merit, and we won't really know until the season starts.

The irony of someone calling out people on one side of an argument for claiming to know something they have no evidence to support while taking a firm stand on the opposite side, also with no evidence for support

How bout we stop acting like anybody on this board has the first clue how good (or bad) he'll be?

And this has what to do with my saying: "I haven't seen a lot of Edwards so I'll have to wait till I actually see him in a game, as far as Kearse goes, he did well last year and look forward to seeing him again. I wasn't guessing about RR and Hurney putting him (Kearse) on front street. They mentioned him by name and implied that they were impressed with his potentional and yes it is an absumption/guess on the rotation of our DT's. It is a fact that our DT's will rotate, so the guess is only as to how or who is paired up with who.

I'm not calling you out, I'm just using your words to speak on behalf of this entire discussion that has been going on with everyone... from those who have good reason to believe Rivera might know what he's doing to those screaming that we're absolutely fuged...

Since you're not calling me out and only using my words to speak on behalf of this entire discussion/thread(s), perhaps your insightful words would be better served by quoting the originators post instead of mine. If I were to quote your post, I responding directly to you.

LOL, yeah ok man. Whatever you say.

One thing is to be passionate another is to nitpick every god damn thing the team does or doesn't do. Look at the threads around here. Half of them are bashing a player, or a staff member. IF that's an opinion, then fine. But don't act like everything is hunky dory in the huddle and people don't bitch and complain about poo.

People can comment and talk about whatever they want. My point is dont be an internet tough guy. If you dont like what people have to say then go some where else. Dont come on here and say "stop acting like you know more than the coaching staff".....

well no sh!t herp derp no one in here is claiming they do. All people want to do on here is talk Panthers. So save the attitude.
