Because Of Other Team's D's Adjustment To Cam Is Why They Drafted An Ot Instead Of Dt.

Think about it. Every team is going to zero in on Cam and make sure he doesn't beat them with his legs this year. Usually a rookie qb does ok when it comes to rushing because of just scrambling to stay alive.

Cam kept many a play alive with his legs. Now that the book is out on him, teams are going to rush more edge guys and force him to stay or step up in the pocket.

While OT wasn't as obvious as we once thought, the more I break down the stats from last year and look at potential tweaks other teams may make, it kinda makes more sense.

No need to worry about shutting other teams down. Just make them catch up offensively instead.

I think Silatolu will allow us to rely on the power run game more often and not make Cam shoulder the load. We needed a big guy up front to allow our 2 star running backs to continue making plays. Silatolu gives us power and an attitude. I love the pick. Now if we can re-sign Shockey, we will add to the tenacity on offense.

We brought in a guard who is excellent in run blocking not because of what others team are going to do to us but because of what we want to do to them. Wharton was gone so we were going to need to replace him. Assuming Hangartner will anchor one guard position, we still need another one and the guard we picked up in free agency from Indy, Pollak, is a pass blocker not run blocker. Because we run a spread option you need guys who can move in space get on the corners and mow people down. That is exactly what we got in the second round, a nasty pancake artist who blows people off the ball and has quick nimble feet. Best of all he does that at 311 lbs. I was looking at our offensive line and we have 2 guys under 300 lbs. Kalil is the lightweight at 295.

He will play both g and t mar.

no, he will only play gaurd. And guess what, it wasn't exactly a secret that Cam could run. I don't think teams are just now figuring it out. They were throwing everything at him last year and he was making people miss left and right. And we got great blocking when he took. We have a better Oline unit this year, so we should get even better blocking for him.

Running the ball effectively may very well determine whether or not we are a playoff team this year. Not to unemphasis the passing game because it does matter, and not to take it to the Fox level of almost playing not to lose, but with the remaining questions of defense (and for the record I think the draft was solid), the running game is critical to our success.

Every team in the NFC South will be tough, but I think the Panthers have the best rushing attack.

Between trying to slow Drew Brees down and neutralize the Atlanta DBs, controlling the clock and dominating the game is paramount.

Our offensive line play, both rushing and passing, will be key.
