Our Weaknesses: Post-Draft Edition

We've completely revamped special teams with the Tolbert, Nakamura, Reggie Smith, Nortman, Medlock and Adams pickups alone. I wouldn't be surprised if its a strength next season.

Nakamura, Kuechley, and Adams I knew, I actually didn't figure in the rest.

Well if Davis is on the bench....

Just because you are on the bench doesn't make you a ST player. There are several players that start that play ST as well as players that aren't starters that don't play ST.

I would say other than Gamble, we still have no proven number two corner. I don't think pass rush or DT will as much of a problem this year.

Every team in our division has multiple receivers that can hurt you. We don't have multiple guys to cover them

With Hogan and Butler, I think we have a better secondary that most think. Both were second round grade guys.

Still unproven, but we di have talent there.

D-Line might suffer if DTs don't step up their game this season. I hope Hogan or Norman are good enough to start cause I don't know if Captain will rebound from last season's flop. I hope he does.

Cam's experience might be a problem but I doubt it. This is Cammy Cam we're talking about.

Everyone is mentioning our new special teamers and forgetting Kenny Onatolu who may be the best special team tackler we added.

The biggest weakness this team has is still inexperience.

Norman or Butler starting at the 2, with the other playing the nickle allows for Captain to be a full-time special teamer. He would honestly be the best special teams player we have. He's a monster in that aspect of the game, because he hustles, and he gives 110%. Onatolu and Smith will definitely help.

I see Nakamura starting at FS, which could allow for Martin to be pushed to special teams.

We also now have a Punter that may be able to not over-kick his coverage. And Mare will probably be gone, so we don't have to collectively hold our breath as he goes for a potential game winning kick.

I think the biggest area of concern is going to be the #2 DE (that starting one has been very average so far in his career) and the UT position. I still worry about the players on the DLine, because I really think it needs an upgrade, but obviously Rivera doesn't. He passed on Fletcher Cox, so he apparently thinks we're set.

Weaknesses going into the season IMO:

1) Secondary. Apart from Gamble, we have no clue how the other guys will do. Lets hope our DB coach does a great job and gets everyone to improve.

2) DT Position. Yes RR has faith that the guys will improve and as a result so do I but the fact of the matter is we'll know when if it has improved when the ball is snapped.

3)#2 WR. This is going to be a big season for LaFell and Gettis. 1 of these guys(hopefully both) has to step up and be a threat opposite Smitty.

So once we stay relatively injury free, this team doesn't have many big weaknesses. We will definitely be in playoff contention and I think Cam's play will determine how far we go.

STs and offense should be very good. I have no idea what Rivera is doing on defense, I mean I understand a little of the basics of the scheme, but I just feel uneasy about the players.

Hogan as our #2 CB. I'm in the dark on this guy.

Fua, McClain, Neblett, can they stop the run?

Sherrod Martin had trouble tackling big WRs and TEs, and made some really basic rookie mistakes in coverage.

Where will Luke start? If he's going to be at MLB, then he'll have to blitz a lot. Is that really a good idea?

Moving Beason to WLB is not the best use of his talents, as we've all seen.

This defensive scheme seems more complicated than most. How long is it going to take for our players to learn how to blitz and fool Drew Brees and other veteran QBs?

I can't wait to see what this defense will look like when Rivera gets it running the way he wants, but I'm not seeing the big picture atm.
