Carolina Panthers’ Picking Joe Adams Makes Armanti Edwards Obsolete

Uh right now he has no value. We have plenty of guys that can catch better than him and return better than him. We got other guys on the team that can do whatever he does better. Hogan and Munnerlyn can return punts if Adams gets hurt. In fact, Munnerlyn has the best ruturn average on the team atm for punts. His average is 9.9. AE's is 5.5. The last time Munnerlyn was a PR he averaged almost 11 yards. Double AE's average. AE's value to this team right now has plummeted.

It's funny a app homer calling himself realistic when in fact he's still being a homer.

So if Munnerlyn was better at returning why didn't he start over Armanti? Oh wait did you forget him constantly fumbling? -5 yards per return>fumbles.

I'm not saying he is the best on the damn team, but he can return, play WR and play wildcat/QB, So it is up to him if he stays or goes, there is no way he just going to get cut.

How many #2 CB's are returning punts in the league?

I don't think it is set in stone that Armanti Edwards is destined to be cut, but the writing is on the wall. His chances are slim to none IF we have no offseason injuries and everyone stays healthy (a Big "if"). If we do get hit with the injury bug his chances increase, but that is not the case at this point in time. Smitty, Lafell, Gettis, Pilares, and Joe Adams own roster spots in my opinion. With the additon of a versatile Tolbert at fullback who can also play slot WR (and has in the past), there really is no pressing need to keep 6 WR's. Even if we do choose to keep 6 on the roster Armanti will be lumped in with Seyi Ajirotutu, Darvin Adams, Chris Manno, our 3 undrafted WR free agents, and any additional pickups from now til training camp competing for the final spot... I will reiterate, a final spot that may not even exist if we choose to go with only 5 WR's. His best shot of making this team is as a WR due to injury.

For those of you that believe Armanti deserves a shot as our third string QB for our "wildcat" formation, I ask you this... Can he run the wildcat better than our starting QB Cam Newton? I don't believe so and I don't think it is even worth experimenting. The few teams that actually do save a roster spot for a mobile QB in order to run the wildcat usually don't have a mobile starting QB and bring him in for a change of pace. We have the wildcat option on every play... No change of pace necessary. Many people falsely assume that due to Armanti being "mobile" like Cam that he would just be able to step right in a run the same offense making him an obvious option for Cam's backup. Armanti would fail miserably in our pass heavy offense and would more than likely be taken down by the first tackler unlike Newton who sheds tackles with his superior size and strength.

Armanti will have the opportunity in training camp, and a few games in the preseason, to prove that he has the skills to be the impact player that the Panthers believed they had traded up to draft just a few years ago. I personally am skeptical. This time around, if the skills don't show up in camp and produce results on the field, I don't believe Armanti will be a part of our 53 man roster strictly due to his "potential" any longer.

I see us getting rid of AE if there's a 6th WR that just totally beats him out

When you look at it like this

Smith, LaFell : Played well last season and are established starters, not going anywhere.

Pilares: Shows promise at KR and flashes in preseason as a WR. Not going anywhere.

Gettis: Has shown promise, coming out off of an injury and has shown more at WR than AE. He's not going anywhere.

Adams: Just drafted him, best punt returner in the NCAA last year and has show promise as a slot guy in the SEC. Not going anywhere.

Edwards: ...He didn't fumble.

Edwards is on even ground with everyone else on this team, no matter what you gave up for him. He's yet to produce at anything he's been asked of (Well, he complete two passes), and as mentioned earlier, we gave up way more for Brown than Edwards, and he was cut last year.

You don't produce, you're gone. End of story.

With all this said, he's not going to be gone unless he performs poor, or not 6th receiver shines. Even then, there's a chance a 6th receiver can be put on the practice squad.

I'm guessing Final Cuts is when he's gone. If not, sometime during the season. I honestly believe Chris Manno stays before he does, not just the work with Cam, but because he's an extremly hard worker, and can also help in Special teams, which we have been working extremely hard to bolster this year. He can also, y'know, catch the ball.

I'm throwing out my Mock Day 1 WR Depth Chart:

1-Steve Smith

2-Brandon LaFell

3-David Gettis

4-Joe Adams

5-Kealoha Pilares

6-Jared Green

Armanti unfortunately brings nothing to the table that none of the above receivers in my personal opinion don't bring, but they bring it better! Joe Adams is faster, quicker, and actually has an electric track record as a return ace, and can be a dynamic slot WR. Pilares played very well at Hawaii and had like 88 catches, for close to 1,500 receiving yards iirc (been a while since I viewed his college stats). As for Jared Green, he has pro pedigree (son of a pro WR for the Redskins), can fly and would likely be a great gunner on ST and may be a dark horse to become something at WR with that 4.33 speed, his video over at an inferior site showed some impressive route running.

That's why Munnerlyn would be the fuging BACKUP! AE has no value what so ever to the team and he will get cut. I would take a 11 yard return average over a guy thats afraid to do anything after he catches the punt.

To the guy who said hes an App homer......im an App guy as I stated earlier....but come on bro this is the NFL it aint the SoCon any more. Armanti was a terrific FCS player. Probably the best ever....but hes a toothpick and hes not fast in NFL standards and hes not a WR in this league. He had one of the worst punt return avg's in the league. Lets be realistic about it. We just draft the SEC Special Teamer of the year and hes being comparted to Hester on punt returns.

SEC Returner of the Year > FCS SoCon QB making trasition to WR/returner.

lets move forward with our squad and lets give better players the chance. its absolutely ridiculous to me to try and hang on to the Armanti project. WTF people

So you want to go ahead and cut Fua, Armanti, McClain, and probably numerous others before they even go to camp and fight for their jobs? Not only would you be crippling the depth of this team, you would cripple the competitive edge that's necessary in camp and the preseason.

Not only that but your opinion about any of these guys, no matter how skewed, doesn't matter. You don't think they are NFL talent, well Hurney and Rivera do. They want those guys here to compete. Even if they don't make the team, the hunger of a player with his back against the wall shouldn't be undermined when faced with competition. It makes the team better having them here right now. Hell sometimes things just click for a player after a few seasons. Happens all the time.

His dad was a CB, not WR.
