Which Saturday Draft Choice Has The Best Chance To Get Playing Time This Season?

I agree.

He has rough edges.

Least we forget we just hired Rivera's bud from the Chargers who is a CB guru (or so they say).

That is a great point. I think all of our CBs will improve greatly over 2011. We have a "Guru" DB coach and some pretty solid talent to work with.

Between Hogan and Norman we "should" come out pretty good at the CB Position and if our young DTs show improvement along with the VET Edwards our defense could be very solid and we should flip flop our record next year 10-6

Nortman is our guy at punter for years to come unless he flops or someone infinitely better shows up. Norman won't start at first. Captain WILL be the starter week one, bank on it. They wouldn't have paid the man if they didn't have faith in him. But Norman will be a solid player when he gets on the field. Alexander will be a good rotation guy from the start. I don't know about Campbell, don't know anything about him. Kuechly will pull our fat out of the fire before January and Silatolu could start at guard depending on his TC performance. Joe Adams is a given at punt returner, he will NOT be doing kick returns though, the FO likes Pilares at KR. Adams may get time in the slot and occasionally outside and in trick plays depending on his performance.

Barring injury, none of them. Alexander might get some snaps but he'll have to have a great TC to get ahead of Johnson, Hardy, Keiser and Applewhite. Adams won't see a single snap on offense. These are all ST guys.

Alexander will be included much like Applewhite and Kaiser were last year.

Adams will got some looks at slot, and take care of all punt return duties.

Norman could see playing time at corner in certain situations and depending on how he plays he could stay at #2.

Nortman will be our punter for the next decade, and will become a household name.

Campbell is a smart special teams guy that will make a bigger impact than some realize.

Was there a rule about it NOT being Kuechly?! I can't believe people are thinking he won't start.

I think Kuechly will definitely start...possibly even in the middle. I have no idea how they will manage the Beason issue, but Kuechly will be on the field as a MLB, WLB or as what I think his immediate value is...WLB.

Also, my other projections:

  • Silatolou should be starting sometime during the season, but may not start the season that way.
  • Nortman will be our Punter.
  • Adams will be our punt retruner & gain playing time during the season in the slot.
  • Josh Norman will play in special packages, but will need a year before even thinking about him being outside as a #2.
  • Alexander will rotate in & out, but will not be designated as a starter this season. He will get playing time.
  • Campbell will probably only play STs this season.

The question about who we drafted on DAY 3 EXCEPTING SPECIAL TEAMS will have the most playing time.

Alexander caught Rivera's eye when Marty was watching/scouting other Oklahoma players (probably the Lewis LBs). DJ Campbell S from Cal caught Rivera's eye when RR was watching his alma mater play. Gil Brandt called Campbell a "steal". From hearing RR talk about Silatolu, considering he was a LB who watched a lot of G on film, I feel very confident his expertise influenced that pick. POINT?: MH is not picking players any longer, a pro is.

I would question the Alexander trade up in 2009, but I have a real good reason to believe that RR is picking the players and we are building a team that will be tough and play with a high motor.

A 6'4" 270 lb DE that earns co-defensive MVP accolades in a major conference is impressive. Throw in his physical attributes (4.76 speed, 35" arms) and RR's endorsement, I am pumped. Remember, he was held out of the combine over a false alarm concerning his heart. He dropped at that time.

We got 2 day 1 starters on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, we added 3 rotational players (Adams, Alexander, Norman) and 4 special teamers (Goodbye Norwood, Armanti--seems the last 2 drafts have been to clean up Marty's disasterous draft in 2009.)

DJ Campbell may not make the 53-man roster, but he could. RR loves his intelligence and ST ability.

All of our picks could make the roster.

He doesn't need to worry about CJ. Hardy hasn't shown enough to deserve his reps. So Alexander will be looking to get reps from Keiser and Applegate....

Adams could easily see some reps in packages designed to use him in the screen game.

...Do people forget about Pilares when thinking Adams is going to be in the slot immediately this year? Adams is going to light it up as a punt returner, maybe be included in a few special packages like a WR reverse, and push for playing time next season perhaps, but Pilares is a much more polished receiver at this point.

I love our draft, but people are getting ahead of themselves about how much time it takes for players to develop.

Great post! I edited it down for size, but very good points.

Regarding Pilares, I disagree. He didn't catch 1 pass last year, why do you say he is polished? I think if we are missing someone who may be in the slot, other than Adams, it would be Seyi Ajirotutu (not saying he will, just if it isn't Adams). I think Adams can make an immediate impact in the slot d/t his return-type after the catch skills, but we will see how TC goes. Even tho they both produced in college (Pilares a little more his last season), Adams was in a pro-style offense. Both of us are correct right now b/c it is all just theory until TC to the season.

Thanks Ken! I read the thread titles so fast, the fact that it said Saturday instead of Day 3 threw me off. My bad.

The most playing time then, excluding STs: Alexander.
