Carolina Panthers Draft Frank Alexander De

Awful awful awful. 270 lb DE? Are you serious? Unless we're switching to 3-4, this is a waste of a pick. Hello Everette Brown #2. They said the exact same things about Brown when he was drafted. This is just a horrible pick, especially considering we gave up so much for it. I love the draft thus far, but this pick is a big fat F for a grade.

LOL

We made two picks in a row...we traded up to make sure we got Joe Adams, not Frank Alexander. It just happened that the Alexander card was handed in first. I guarantee you there were teams that wanted Joe Adams. He is a difference-maker on ST and can run after the catch. THAT was the trade up.

Even if we did trade up to get Alexander I think its a good pick. He's a speed rusher who played in a big conference and was arguably one of the best pass rushers in that conference every year he started. He had 20 something sacks as a 2 year starter and 1 year as a rotational player. I can live with that in the 4th round. We need help on ST BADLY and we need guys who can get after the QB. Alexander does both well.

A few things:

1. We gave up what will probably be a mid to late 3rd and a 6th round pick to grab a very early 4th. Oh the fuging horror.

2. We added someone to rotate/compete at DE and maybe slide back to rush from LB. Much like Applewhite, who is a message board hero.

3. Once they didn't select DT with our 2nd, you needed to get over picking one.

4. It doesn't fuging matter what ranking iwishiwasascoutbutitseasiertojustblogaboutit.com had on him, we needed some help rushing the QB and think he can help us. He was a really good player at Oklahoma.

5. We had the least flashy draft (sans Joe Adams) of anyone which I think is driving people who "scout" via youtube compilations a little crazy. We've grabbed some really, really good players.

Where the hell do you get 3rd round grade? He was projected 7th round or UDFA

He originally had 6th round grade because of the heart condition that was "found" at the combine. However, the condition was proven to be false. He had sig moved up boards. All of the experts were talking about him this morning before the draft started. Said he was great value here and was one of their sleepers.

Could this be a bad pick? Maybe

Could this be a great pick? Maybe

Need to actually see him play before making that call

6'4 270 isn't that undersized. There's lots of similar or smaller DEs people were wanting here earlier. I don't think we should have added the 6th in the trade, but maybe that's just because it was an early 4th. Next year's pick one round earlier is the going rate for this kind of pick. A 3rd is what it should have cost, but it was the 7th pick of the 4th round, so maybe that's why we had to give up the 6th too. Good pick, was Mayocks #2 DE of day 3 (behind Cam Johnson). Maybe they just didn't like what they saw from Johnson.
