Hardy got knocked down and Smith ran up the "middle" which was more like off tackle because no one was there with Hardy on the ground. Not having a linebacker who can read the play is what allowed that run to gain the yards that it did.

Alexander may not be a day 1 dominating DE, but if he adds 10-15 pounds of muscle (which will happen in the weight room), he will be a lengthy athletic pass rusher. Wasn't that a need? Don't get me wrong, we still gave up too many yards to the run but understand that it was not from the lack of play out of the defensive tackles. Not having Beason and Davis killed this defense in more ways than the final stat line shows.
