The Panthers Aren't Built In A Day

top dawg

the niners' 13-3 team took a long time to build from when harbaugh was hired

patience, people

LOL if you seriously think that team was "built" in one year just from Harbaugh showing up.

Hey, hey , hey now.

We've only been rebuilding toward that 1st Playoff win since 2005.

The 49ers had been doing that since their last winning season/playoff win in 2002.

the lions damn near had ZERO talent after suffering through matt millen for years. they get a new GM and their turnaround takes how long? let's see...

2009: 2-14

2010: 6-10

2011: PLAYOFFS

but hey guys we're still rebuilding and stuff, just be patient

So, we're rebuilding more quickly than the Lions?

Also, the Lions put talent over character and we see how that's playing out for them this offseason. They're going to peak before they reach the top and have to do this all over again with no jewelry.

Getting to be at the top tier of success (being consistent playoff team) isn't easy or else there would be teams doing it.

It is true that Hurney has presided over only 3 winning teams in 11 years, which isn't good, no doubt about it.

But there were 5 playof wins during that time. That number certainly does not suck, no doubt about it.

Atlanta fans spend most of their time congratulating their coach/GM for having "winning" teams (and in fairness they went 40 years w/o back-to-back winning seasons), but they have ZERO playoff wins and their window is closing fast. Haven't won a playoff game since 2004.

New Orleans only team that has had real success. And that's because they have Brees, not because Mickey Loomis otherwise has a better GM record than Hurney. Loomis' record before Brees was not good. Simple truth.

If Hurney and Rivera can't be a winning team with Newton, JR will fire both of them and find someone who can

Comparing the 49ers situation to the Panthers situation is like comparing apples to oranges. Stop trying to act like they went from zero to sixty in 3 seconds. Mike Singletary, Mike Nolan and others set the wheels in place defensively for at least two years. Singletary just didn't know how to effectively drive the wagon. Our defense had way more holes, and the team in general was much more inexperienced, singularly and collectively. Moreover, injuries had a profound impact on the overall success of the 2012 campaign. To suggest that it wasn't a good effort based on the situation of the 49ers---all things considered---is a tad disingenuous.

You do know we beat that same team in 2010 with our worst team.

Literally the same people who defended losing in 2011 by saying that winning was expected in 2012 are now defending losing in 2012.

Certainly you aren't referring to me. Who are these "same people" who "literally...defended losing in 2011 by saying that winning was expected in 2012"? This doesn't even make sense. Losing in 2011 really does not have to be defended. Young team that needs to gel with a brand new coaching staff, with a rookie QB, that suffered arguably four key injuries. That's not an excuse, just a reality. The only rational expectations that I have for 2012 is to build upon the the unexpected "success" of Rivera and company's freshmen season. I hope that we have a better record in 2012, but it's not like I expect a world championship, much less an NFC South championship? Am I optimistic about the team, and do I think we have a realistic chance to get to the playoffs? Sure. But a lot of that is going to depend upon Cam's development and many other factors.

You know damned we were a little lucky. Smith got hurt and they put in David Deer-In-The-Headlights Carr. Are you trolling again, or are you serious? Singletary got into his own way, much less his team's. Harbaugh brought them out of their box. Perhaps you yearn for the return of Fox.

Chef, Most threads in football forums probably are the same on some level, but they are also very nuanced. Sometimes the nuances are the tipping point that sway a person's opinion in one direction or another, or at least make the discussions interesting.
