We Have No Pass-Rush Or Secondary

Did you even watch this team last year?

Andersen and Godfrey were literally the only two people in the back seven making any plays. He leaves a lot to be desired in coverage, but he is solid coming into the box and was forced to cover Martin's a$$ all year

Um, I would argue that Chris Gamble was the best player on the entire defense last season.

Irrelevant comment...but whatever

It was pointed to point out that alot of the high and mighty were screaming the same thing last year. Like you know more about football than everyone else. You dont have to be a coach to be know a good draft. Honestly i see the bucs improving greatly in the offseason and in the draft. While we just tred water. Thats the point.

The Panthers ran with young Charles Godfrey (-13.7) and Sherrod Martin (-6.8) as their starting safeties in 2011, with Jordan Pugh (-11.6) as the primary backup. Neither has fully panned out, but Godfrey in particular has seemed to regress–in 2011, he had the fourth highest yards per play in coverage by a safety at 1.03. Although Pugh is young, he didn’t look like the answer either allowing nearly every ball thrown his way to be caught. The answer at safety doesn’t look like it’s on the roster, and the Panthers haven’t been the best at finding defensive back talent in the draft before, so free agency might be the way to go.

This is fuging GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're in a division with Matt Ryan and Drew Brees who will have all day to throw and pick apart this horrendous secondary. Jones, Colston, White, and Jackson are gonna enjoy burning the hell out of our horrible secondary. Back to 4th in the division we go!

Hurney knows he fuged up, otherwise he wouldn't have TOLD the fuging media he was trying to trade back into the 3rd, fuged up big time.

Anybody who has Paula Deen as their avatar should be forced to roll in buttermilk and honey with a beehive on call. Between injured players coming back and Kuechly and a full training camp for Rivera and McDermott to install a good scheme, the defense should be much improved. Also, have cap room becoming available in June to sign a savvy veteran DB and possibly DE. OL needed major help. Wharton is gone.

lol.

Am I the only one that thought we did pretty damn decent last year all things considered?

Those all things were:

Rookie QB

New Head Coach

New Off. Coord

New Deff. Coord

No offseason work

3 defensive starters lost in the first two weeks of the season

RT lost to injury, rookie forced to play RT

2 rookie starting defensive tackles

We were a couple plays in about 3 or 4 games from winning 9 or 10 games last year and making the playoffs. Most of which could be attributed to being a young inexperienced team rather than a sucka$$ defense.

The defense is raw, but there is talent there. Here is what we have on defense

A shutdown corner in Gamble

A premiere young pass rusher in C. Johnson

A stud MLB in Beason

A tackling machine rookie in Luke

One of the most underrated linebackers in football in James Andersen

A solid safety in Godfrey (solid when he's not asked to make up for Martin's mistakes)

A mammoth of a man in the middle in Ron Edwards

A wealth of young rotational passrushers in Applewhite, Keiser, and Hardy

A wealth of young rotational defensive tackles in Kearse, Neblett, Shirley, Fua, and McClain

The only issue I have with the defense is corner, and heck, we don't even know what we have in Hogan (who was projected as a high 2nd rounder last year before his injury (not to mention Darius Butler getting a full offseason under McD)

pie and rep... we can discuss this further but I have nothing else to say...

I agree with op. None of our draft picks fix any of our biggest issues from last year. You don't have to be a nfl gm to see a botched draft.

Yeah, because we really need some more rookies starting on the defensive line. That worked out so well last year.
