Carolina Panthers Draft Amini Silatolu Og Midwestern

This discussion takes me back to the conversations about Dontari Poe. We (rightfully) knocked him because he was not dominant against lesser competition.

You certainly can't say that about Amini. He crushed lesser competition.

Dude don't even waste your time. The users that don't get this pick won't get it until he's in the probowl. There is absolutely no logic behind half of what anyone against the pick is saying. Most fans just like sexy picks or defensive players they like but know nothing about.

This guy is a MONSTER. He's a day one start and future Pro Bowl guard. Was one of my favorite prospects in the draft; I had him rated as the 3rd best OL in the entire draft behind Kalil and DeCastro.

LOVE this pick. Absolutely LOVE it. He is one big, mean ass nasty motherfuger. Brings attitude to our OL and big time physicality. Don't let the small school label fool you; this guy is an outstanding player and will be a Pro Bowl caliber guard for us for 7-8 years if not longer.

From what I've seen of his on-field demeanor, I think if he would have been on roster last season, Roman Harper would be taking his food through a straw right now

2011 NFL Rankings:

Carolina Panthers Defense: 28th Overall (yds/gm)

Carolina Panthers Offense: 7th Overall (yds/gm)

It has nothing to do with players I know because 99.999999999999% of you didn't know who the f*ck this guy was before the draft process started. The same percentage have never seen this guy play a snap of football until Kiper or Mayock gave you analysis on him after we picked him.

My point is we have 9 or more guys who CAN start on OL. With all of our starters from last year coming back from that 7th ranked offense and Cam having another year of reps and experience under his belt.

The guy could come out and be the next Hutchinson, but my point is we were set with what we had, and could possibly even have been better without him considering the additions of Campbell and Pollack.

The offense just need some quality depth across the board. The defense needed to be revamped.

Think about how many spots on the offense you look at and say, "Whoa, that guy sucks! We need an upgrade!"

Now think about defense.

That's why I'm not a fan of the pick.

I don't mind this pick.

You can never have too many lineman on your team especially mean ones. OL was a part of our team needs and we addressed it. Although this guy has a lot to learn and isn't the brightest, a couple years in the NFL off-season programs and he should by all accounts be a monster.

If you hate on this pick because it OL then you know nothing about football and would rather you not a Panthers fan, but if you don't like it because you think there was a better OL out there then I can respect that.

Although Hurneys picks are very iffy in the 2nd............Jury is still out on this kid

B+ Grade

would've been an A+ if he had those highlights for a D-1 school, thats just the way it is you play better talent

Yes, all-world abilities against D2 talent but "isn't the brightest." Bruce Campbell has the same rep but played D1, has played on the NFL level and started, but according to Hurney has struggled because he was moved around... He was brought in to compete for a starting job, yet a guy who hasn't played a snap in the NFL yet is already better than him, Pollack, and Garry Williams (the favorite for the starting job at guard last year).

Don't let me interrupt your fap.

Lets go over this one more time...PROTECT THE KING!!! This kid is a BALLER!!! Fug you haters hahahahah I absolutely love our two picks, these guys play mean and bringn some swag!!!

Indeed.

The former left tackle excels in the run game, especially when pulling around the edge to clear lanes at the second level. Silatolu does struggle in pass protection on the edge against quicker rushers, but once he gets his hands on the opposition, it is over.

Uh huh. Fail.

For the record i think he will be 2nd string start of the season. Pollack & Hangartner starting Gaurds

But this is why I'm not getting the elation over the pick.

He may be a "pro bowler" eventually, he may end up being another Mackenzy Bernadeau. None of us know for sure. I hate the pick because the other needs are so glaring and we have guys who can start at the Gs right now.

The defense is what lost us games last year and Kuechly isn't enough to fix that. Neither is Ron Edwards coming back from injury, nor is Fua or McClain coming in with a season of experience.

The starters from offense aren't all back, Shockey was the #1 TE on the DC last year. Also Wharton was the starter and neither are expected to be back. The team didn't have a starter at one of the guard spots and that needed to be addressed. So one spot on offense that sucked going into the draft.

Beason, Davis and Anderson are all good and don't suck. Should be the same for Kuechly. Senn doesn't suck either.

Hardy doesn't suck, he's a very good pass rusher (needs to finally work on his run defense though) Nice depth at LB for backup's and ST's

Johnson doesn't suck

Edwards doesn't suck

McClain,Fua, Shirley and Kearse were rookies with out OTA's or mini Camps...so forth, they all have a year in the NFL and a year in a NFL weight program.

We still don't know what we have in those players. Fua didn't play well last season though, that's for sure. However, there probably wasn't a DT or DE in this draft that would've started over those 4 starters this season.

Gamble doesn't suck

Hogan was drafted to be the future starter and is the same as a draft pick, he just has a better understanding of the defense and what it takes to make it in the NFL. That's the same thing as drafting a CB in this draft. Nice depth at CB with Captain, Butler and stanford to compete for the Nickel and dime spots/special team help.

Martin has played well before, but had a down season. Doesn't mean he sucks though, just had a bad season with a defense that had tons of injuries in front of him that made his job harder.

Godfrey while not amazing, still doesn't suck and had the same issue has Martin did last season.

The two guys that were brought in have starting ability and are good insurance in case one of the above two don't work out.

The defense needed a potential guy to take over for Edwards and depth at LB, DL and CB.. Not really any starters.

I can't agree with this.

Wharton sucked last year anyway, so one of the guys we signed and/or Garry Williams is an upgrade IMO. Pollack or Campbell could start at the other G.

And Hogan may have been drafted to be a starter but that doesn't mean he will be.

Let's call it even and say we don't know what we have at any of the positions you listed where we lost someone on offense and getting guys back from injuries on defense.

The defense is still the much bigger question mark because of the nature of injuries and lack of depth at the positions of need. Our 4th, 5th and 6th stringers looked better at DT last season than Fua or McClain did. We still haven't seen Edwards play a snap and he's a year older. Hogan was recovering from injury most of last year and he didn't start or play a lot when he finally got the green light.

Munnerlyn and Stanford looked pretty bad last year.

Martin looked horrible last year but could be an aberration.

Godfrey was okay but has been inconsistent in the past.

We can't count on Beason or Davis to come back 100% this year, but it would be awesome if they did.

Regardless, the DT and CB position did need a possible starter. The OL didn't as it was addressed through trades and FA.

I know I won't change anyone's opinion on this and no one will change mine so it's pointless for me to keep posting about it.

I'm not trying to troll, I will pull for all of our picks b/c they are our players until they prove they suck, but I just feel we were better served drafting elsewhere.
