Did We Get Hurney'd?

I agree, but my main point was to say that the coaches also have input into the selections, including this one. I just don't know why some people ignore that and put this all on Hurney. If you could go back to the 2010 presser, you could see Fox didn't want to have anything to do with the questions he was asked. But these last two drafts, I would guarantee that Ron gave his two cents worth.

Fox was lame duck and he knew it so he probably couldn't care less who got drafted. I fu*king love Rivera, I was skeptical at first but he is turning out to be a great coach.

For those saying we could have gotten luke later on in the Draft from what I heard on ESPN radio from John Clayton that if we had not of gotten him the Bills would have taken him, so no we could not have gotten him later, and guys believe it or not but this was the best pick we could have gotten at 9, I would have been more for Coples if it had not been for the concern of his motivation, and with me that counts as a lot, and I straight up didn't want Poe.

this was the pick I wanted the Panthers to make and we made it

Is it possible that Kuechley was drafted because he was the absolute safest pick at that position? The pick can be somewhat justified versus gambling on the DT, DE, or CB available. I still think we could've traded down with the Jets who could've got someone they wanted at that point and got Kuchley later.

Absolutely. We picked Keuchly because he is safe and Hurney is scared of making a bad pick in the first round. Great GMs don't make safe picks. A few years ago the Giants took JPP (the rawest prospect in the draft). Last year the niners took Aldon Smith (the rawest player in the draft). This year the Pats moved up to take Chandler Jones. The Redskins took Ryan Kerrigan. These are all guys in the last two years who had major question marks about where they fit but they were all extremely talented. Who knows about Chandler Jones but the other guys are probably going to evolve into three of the best pass rushers in the league...we needed a guy like that.

Love Keuchly but I just don't get where he fits. Are we going to move our All-Pro MLB outside? Are we going to play a guy who could be an All-Pro MLB to a position he never played in college?? It just didn't make sense to me when we can't rush the QB and we can't keep the OL off our LBs. The only thing I can think of is that Hurney and Rivera don't expect TD to come back...

Rivera wanted him. Your point is moot.

To not like the pick is to not understand the pick if you ask me. If Beason's achilles is not 100%, andea few ever return to 100%, then his second advantage, his quickness, is compromised. (His first advantage? his reaction time. Kuechly's 40 time and agility drills were all better that Beason's at the combine. Beason would probably serve the team better right now by moving to OLB.

Kuechly is tall (6'3") and weighs 240. The height, speed, and intelligence all make him, in certain situations, more suited to play MLB than Beason. For One, there are a lot of routes (seam, deep cross) that require the QB to throw the ball between the LB getting depth and the S, over the fingertips of the MLB. Since Kuechly is fast, tall, and reads quickly, this should cause a few more incompletions and a few more turnovers each season. Game of inches. Even when Beason was at full strength, TEs always hurt us. Beason's lack of height was one reason.

Kuechly has the speed to legiimately cover from sideline to sideline. Beason could, but with his injury, maybe he need to focus on one side.

WHAT IF THOMAS DAVIS AND BEASON are fully recovered by the start of the season? Hardly likely, but now look at contracts. Anderson makes a lot for a 2-down SLB. Just sayin, Its a business. That is unlikely, however. I feel that TD is pretty much done. He may return, but not as the old TD.

Cam was far and away one of the biggest gambles Hurney could have made.

Keek is viewed as a "safe pick" but in reality, he was just the BPA that fits a need. In terms of what position he will play, it very much is a gamble if we line him up outside. The risk is he might be out of position. The reward is we have a top flight coverage LB to shadow Graham. It's just not a "sexy" pick or an "exciting" pick, but it is the smart pick.
