Safest Pick In The Second? - Vinny Curry

Recommended Posts

That Beef o Brady vid he is just straight dominant!

Yeah, I picked that video because it was the most recent video and the game against West Virginia that I liked shows him playing a little bit of linebacker so I didn't want to freak people out into thinking he was Everette Brown 2.0. I originally had the video of the West Virginia-Marshall game posted which is why I put his measurable's up there to show individuals that were skeptical of him that he has the prototypical body and skill of an NFL defensive end but in the end I just opted with the bowl game.

I like his 10yard split and 35" arms. I like his resume. The only thing I do not like is his height and weight.

Meh, weight is fine. Putting another 5-10# on him should be easy and not have much if any impact on his speed and quickness. Yeah, I'd like him to be an inch or two taller, but his long arms help make up for that.

You're not going to get a guy with ideal production AND ideal measurables in the 2cd round at a premium position like DE. Those guys go in the 1st round, usually very high in the 1st round.

I think Curry would be a good pick, and I think the Panthers are going to pick a pass rusher with their 2nd pick.

I truly believe at this point the Panthers are going into training camp with the 4 DT's they got (McClain, Fua, Edwards, Shirley) and see what they got and will add a veteran guy if necessary. Of course there will be camp fodder DT's too.

I don't think they will shy away from an OLB/ DE type either. I think the Panthers are going to show a lot more looks in passing situations this year with 3 man fronts.

Ppl are sleeping on Curry.

He is arguably the best DE in the draft.

Who ever gets him will get a damn good pass rusher

Also for those wondering, I liked Still's video, he has some areas he needs to work on much like McClain and Fua did but I think McClain and Fua due to their NFL experience would be further along than Still which would ultimately put still on the bench as a rotational guy.

Jenkins, I don't even have to explain; he is a straight stud, he's just not the safest pick due to his personal issues.

Worthy, I do not like at all. His body size benefits him but he doesn't do anything that another guy his size can't due. He looks like your average and sometimes even below average 300+ defensive tackle. He reminds me of a very poor-mans Cory Peters.

Everyone's right in the sense that the prototypical 4-3 DE's go in the first round. And then you're left with guys like Curry who may not have "ideal" size or guys that may have the size but are projects (like Charles Johnson was as a 3rd Rounder).

Some guys can produce and some can't- drafting isn't perfect. I don't Hurney should be slammed for drafting Everrette Brown in and of itself. Brown is undersized but so is Dwight Freeney.

I wouldn't have even minded Everrette Brown as a 2nd rounder that year (he was the highest rated) "pure" pass rusher and had a good college career. Just foolish and desperate to trade a future first rounder for him
