I Do Not Hate Luke Keuchly

Again, some act like we wont address DL or CB the rest of this draft or in the next offseason.

Luke Kuechly is just one piece of the puzzle. If we drafted Cox and Davis and Beason got hurt, wed be screwed.

Fua or McClain & Kuechly >>>>>> Cox & whoever our backup LBers are.

You just said yourself that we can address other positions later in the draft. I don't think Fua+McClain+Kuechly is necessarily better than Cox+David/Kendricks/Robinson or whomever else we could have drafted in subsequent rounds.

It's a cutthroat business by nature.

The Panthers are one of those teams that really does try hard to do right by their players, but they still have to protect the business first.

It's sad sometimes, but that's the way it has to be.

I don't think there is anything even suggesting cut throat about it. Not even close. If anything the Panthers have given him too much of a chance. I don't think many teams would still be paying him.

I think a lot of you people are undervaluing the Linebacker in our defensive system. All that research of the Jim Johnson 4-3, the various 4-3/3-4 hybrid alignments that Rivera promised last year, they all went to the shitter not when Ron Edwards went down, but when 2 of our starting linebackers went down. Do some research on our system. A DT would have been a luxury pick at #9. We need big linebackers who can move in traffic and tackle and cover. Our system isn't rigged to get pressure with just the front four. It's rigged to get pressure and dictate the offense with the front 7.

The Giants were 27th in defense last season.

Naming the LBers of a below average defense off the top of your head has nothing to do with anything. Plus if you don't know Kiwanuka and Boley you don't pay much attention .....which is fine

Typical.

But I too am against the timing of the pick given everything else we need help with. Couldn't agree more.

The whole world is laughing at the Browns today for doing what you are suggesting. If you are struggling like we have been, drafting for need could get you in even worse trouble (ie E Brown).

You know, I have no idea why I keep coming back to this board. I always end up feeling like I've gotten dumber after reading most of the retarded, completely nonsensical opinions some of you spew for reasons I can't completely fathom.

All of the most successful NFL franchises draft the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE, not just for need. In following that philosophy, we now have a stud linebacker that provides insurance at a critical spot and can eventually be our defensive quarterback of the future.

It seems a lot of you like BPA in theory but hate to see it in practice, because you assume there's only one fuggin' round in the draft.

A lot of you keep addressing the Giants fearsome pass rush. Guess how they ended up with it: BY TAKING THE BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE. They got killed draft after draft for adding pass rushers when they already had great players at that spot, and lo and behold now everyone wants to make out like they're geniuses.

Make up your damn minds: either be on board with BPA or admit you don't believe in it.

The Giants Pass Rush is amazing. They get to the QB. Their tackles are amazing. If they win in the trenches their LBs and DB's don't need to be all that great.

With that said I hope we address the DL. =/

ANDDD..... other than JPP, how many first rounders does their vaunted dline have?

I'm not sold in the BPA strategy .. look at NE for example

They have certain positions to fill .. and if a player is not available that they think is worth the pick .. they trade out of the position and pick up more picks in the current and future drafts .. this gives them the advantage of being able to give up picks they've received to get a guy they really want/need

Moreover, they use free agency probably better than any team to fulfill their team's needs

I'm not sure where "BPA is the best strategy" originated

And their strategy left them with a defense just as bad as ours, and now they have to use up those extra picks just to grab players they HOPE can turn around their D. I'd rather keep the pick, take the player, and find out ahead of time whether it's a bust.
