I Do Not Hate Luke Keuchly

I really don't.

I have made some digs here and there comparing him to lesser LB'ers, but he has great measurables, seems like a smart kid, and obviously impressed the Panthers FO enough for them to make him a top 10 pick.

I do however hate where the Panthers picked him.

Before I get into this name me the starting Lb'ers of the Super Bowl Champion NY Giants?

Dont google it, just name them.

Most of you cant.

In the SuperBowl their starters were

SLB

59 Michael Boley

MLB

53 Greg Jones

WLB

94 Mathias Kiwanuka

The Giants base their defense on a powerful Defensive Line generating pressure and freeing up their Linebackers (whom few can name) to make plays in the running game.

The Panthers however appear to have taken a different approach.

Our Defensive line is made up of basically no bodies (minus Charles Johnson). We do not generate a ton of pressure and sacks and as of right now our LB'ers are going to be fighting off Guards and Tackles when trying to make plays in the running game.

The above is the center piece of my disdain for the 2012 first over all pick.

Why is the front office building the defense on such a shaky foundation ?

Why in a division...,a LEAGUE for that matter, where QB's are ruling the world are we not working to generate more pressure and sacks?

Why do we have 3 first round picks invested in a LB'er group, not to mention almost 100million dollars over the next 5 or so years, when the NFL as a whole seems to be devaluing the LB'er position more and more?

What good is the "Best LB Corps" in the NFL if they are being assfuged by offensive linemen the whole game and making tackles 3-5 yards on the positive side of the LOS ?

Had the Panthers traded back and gotten a couple of picks and then taken this kid, I would be less upset.

Had the Panthers decided to build from the inside out on both sides of the lines I would be thrilled.

But I fail to see where this will be a significant impact to improving this defense.

Had the significant talents on the DL (Cox to name the favorite) been gone, this pick would be a ton easier to swallow.

We arent running a 3-4 or a 4-4. IF (and I agree its unlikely) all of our starters from last season are on the field this kid could sit on the bench all season. Are we going to move our Superstar MLB to WLB so this kid ecan thrive ? The feeling of ineptitude here is stifling to me.

I even had someone tweet to me we could ROTATE fuging LINEBACKERS to keep them fresh now ?

and you all ask me why I am on my period. BS like this put me on my period.

Feel free to continue taunting me and calling me out, thats why we are here, to debate and have a good time.

I hope I am wrong, I hope he turns out to be a superstar game changer. I fail to see how that can happen however, w/o the pieces in place around him to help him succeed.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that we DO NOT run the same defensive schemes as the Giants? Al 4-3 defenses are not designed the same. Rivera led defenses have ALWAYS been built around stud lb corps.

Whats not being said enough about Kuechly(and I didnt even realize this until after we got him and I did the research) is that he is great in coverage. I know we need corners, but how many times did we get burned last year by the TE we faced?

Kuechly should help a lot with TE coverage. Now go get a corner who can cover and stay healthy and I think we go a long ways.

I'm not sold in the BPA strategy .. look at NE for example

They have certain positions to fill .. and if a player is not available that they think is worth the pick .. they trade out of the position and pick up more picks in the current and future drafts .. this gives them the advantage of being able to give up picks they've received to get a guy they really want/need

Moreover, they use free agency probably better than any team to fulfill their team's needs

I'm not sure where "BPA is the best strategy" originated

Pats always draft late and aren't usually in position to decline the supposed best ILB prospect in years.

But their line is amazing, regardless of where they were picked. They bring constant pressure. We need that, and hopefully it will get addressed in the later rounds today.

I think there is better value available still. Although I am a fan of Jenkins as our 2nd pick right now, but there will be a starting DT/DE available at our next pick.

Im just going with Panthro assessment that Marty Hurney has a fetish for LBs and RBs. It makes just as much sense as any other.

I said before the Draft Hurney was going to define himself in this draft. With what we draft we will be either a 8-8 team or a 11-5 and if we dont sure up our DL like you have said prob the 8-8 is more appropriate. I really hope Im wrong but with our div getting better I dont see it.

Kuechly is the biggest linebacker on the team now, he is also the fastest linebacker on the team. Need to cover a big fast TE well why not use a big fast linebacker.

You know, I have no idea why I keep coming back to this board. I always end up feeling like I've gotten dumber after reading most of the retarded, completely nonsensical opinions some of you spew for reasons I can't completely fathom.

All of the most successful NFL franchises draft the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE, not just for need. In following that philosophy, we now have a stud linebacker that provides insurance at a critical spot and can eventually be our defensive quarterback of the future.

It seems a lot of you like BPA in theory but hate to see it in practice, because you assume there's only one fuggin' round in the draft.

A lot of you keep addressing the Giants fearsome pass rush. Guess how they ended up with it: BY TAKING THE BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE. They got killed draft after draft for adding pass rushers when they already had great players at that spot, and lo and behold now everyone wants to make out like they're geniuses.

Make up your damn minds: either be on board with BPA or admit you don't believe in it.

So we should take Peter Konz with our pick tonight because he is BPA over Worthy, JJ, Trumaine Johnson, Jayron Hosley, etc? Gocha. Money in the bank.

Brady

They have drafted like junk for years before Gronk and Hernandez

where do you think they got Brady?

here's a link to their draft history .. they definitely have not "drafted like junk"

http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?teamId=3200&type=team

they win because they know how to effectively use the draft and free agency better than most other teams

A quote on Luke Kuechly

The intriguing thing about Luke Kuechly is historically inside linebackers are not valued, mostly because they get replaced in sub packages and nickel packages. Kuechly is the opposite. Kuechly's strength lies in the pass game. He's the best pass-dropping linebacker from the inside I've ever seen coming out of college football. He's got instincts, he's got speed. So on third down, when the sub package comes in the game, he's going to stay in the game

Wow.

You sound a little like me.

Sorry to have brought you down to my level of Hurney hate/questioning.

But Welcome.

That was a single example.

They won the Superbowl so it was easy to use them.

A dominate D-Line makes any scheme better.

How is this hard to understand is the better question.
