Luke Kuechly - The Right Choice

i think the kid COULD BE a great pick.. but i looked at ALOT of his tape last night. most of his tackles were 5+ yards up the field. Not alot of pash rushing (but thats not what we got him for) I say put him in the middle. The big boys will pass rush on the edges and if someone does run up the middle, he will be there. Hes gonna need some work though. gotta get his aggression up.

I am glad most people are jumping on the bandwagon and seeing what I have been saying for a month. He is going to be the best linebacker on the team in a year or two once he learns the ropes. In the meantime he will be a good starter and contribute a lot. That assumes that Beason comes back 100% and returns to pro bowl form.

For those who don't like the pick and have reservations, just keep an open mind and see what players themselves say about him in minicamps and in training camp. He is going to be an impact player. As for the other picks, I think we had a solid draft. Did we pick a lot of who I wanted??? Really Kuechly and Adams were the ones I was lobbying for in the rounds we got them. The rest were not my favorites but that is why I am on this message board and they do it for a living. I have to say I think we addressed our biggest needs.

Kuechly was a fantastic pick. From an article from the NOLA paper:

"The Panthers were thinking similar thoughts when they selected Kuechly two spots later.

Kuechly was widely regarded as the best linebacker in the draft. He's known for his coverage ability. Mayock called him "the best pure zone drop pass linebacker I've ever seen on tape."

You don't think the Panthers were thinking about Graham when they took Kuechly? Graham averaged eight catches for 113 yards in two wins against the Panthers last season. Kuechly is essentially a one-man Graham cracker, a guy whose specialty is dropping into coverage against opposing tight ends."

People compain about the secondary but I still maintain pass coverage by the LB's last year was the worst part of the defense as a whole. It sucked all year long- the run defense progressively got better

Kuechly hopefully is going to go a long way towards helping that along with a healthy Beason and Davis. James Anderson was by far the best tackling LB we had last year.

I could see the starting LB's being Anderson (SLB), Beason hopefully will stay at (MLB), and Kuechly at (WLB).

Davis can come in on 3rd downs for pass coverage/ blitz. I could also see Rivera putting all 4 out there on passing downs with a 3 man front.
