Can Coples Play The 3 Technique?

He would stop the run better than Hardy on running downs and pressure the passer from DE or DT. He has a good first step and can be a very strong bull rusher with proper technique (long arms).

You are right, it could be nasty. Coples can push the pocket. Our DEs would have had many more sacks last year with middle pressure. Another thing that Coples would do is bat balls away and disrupt vision. Big boy.

Tee Ray, you know I am never wrong about the draft--I see us taking Kuechly. Not necessarily my preference, but I see Hurney and RR coming to agreement with him.

When I was breaking down the draft and breaking down our roster to try and figure out who we may pick at #9 I ended up with Coples and Keuchly being the most likely guys. Sort of a 1A and 1B situation.

My reasoning is that I don't think we are as desperate at DT and CB as the national media thinks. I think we still have a lot of faith in Ron Edwards, Fua, and McClain and I also think our FO think Brandon Hogan will eventually be our #2 starter at CB.

In my opinion, our biggest areas of need on defense is DE and LB. I went back and forth on Coples and Keuchly and finally settled on Coples because I think he gives us a lot of versatility on the DL (like playing the 3 tech) and he has the potential to be an impact player very quickly and would be an immediate upgrade over Hardy.

Point being, Keuchly makes a lot of sense also. I know he doesn't really fit with Beason being our ML but there is no denying the fact that we are already thin on talent at LB and both Beason and Davis are unknowns in regard to how the will be after major knee injuries.

So it wouldn't surprise me at all if you were right and we picked Keuchly at #9.

Of course all of this is irrelevant is certain people fall i.e. Blackmon

But a lot of these guys play for the love of the game and money is just a benefit of it, i.e. Smith, Newton, etc... As a Carolina fan, I can promise you that Coples won't be that guy; he will play his ass off, put up good numbers, but when it's time for his contract extension he will weasel every penny out of you and if someone else pays him a penny more no matter what their chances of winning a championship compared to ours is he will take the money and run. I guarantee that.

lol

now we're forecasting holdouts from coples like so far in advance it's irrelevant

As a Carolina fan...

He is athletic and strong enough to play just about anywhere on the field.

The problem is he is money driven and cared more about his pro career rather than his senior season at Carolina leading to him not performing well.

If you want to get an idea of the "real" Quinton Coples, you will have to look back at his junior year and beyond.

Okay...If it was all about money...Why didn't he just come out last year? He wouldn't have been Top 15 like last year but he still would have made more money then he did this year sitting at the dorm?

As another Carolina fan, you don't have a clue what motivates who. As for your guarantee, this is a business and these guys have a very short shelf life. You can't blame someone for chasing the money.

You do when you actually know some of the guys, didn't want to bring it up because most people don't believe what people say on this board to begin with, but take that for what it's worth.

Ok, we'll as a guy who used to write for another website and did a number of player interviews I can tell you that money means a lot more to most of these guys than loyalty does.

For most, and rightfully so, it's about the BBD. The Bigger, Better Deal. If you live in the Charlotte area it's actually hard to not meet and talk to a lot of these guys, same at Chapel Hill so "knowing" players doesn't mean a lot becaus they know they are surrounded by fans and are going to tow the company line. The year before Pep left he told me at OTA's this was the only place he wanted to play- you see how that worked out.
