Greg Cosell Has Matt Kalil Falling To #13

Recommended Posts

If this represents a list of best players and doesn't include team needs, style of play, scheme, etc, then it didn't need to be included with the other three which were mock drafts.

If that is not what it represents, then no wonder folks are criticizing it. It doesn't belong up there the other 3 mock drafts if that is not what it represents. If it is though, then it was a pretty poor job since he based his mock on factors which are not close to what the teams doing the drafting will be using to make decisions. Isn't that the purpose of doing a mock draft? predicting what the teams will do? Not deciding that if you only looked at film then this is how the players would fall??

I feel like there is virtually no chance of that happening unless someone offers them a stupid number of picks to move up. Do the Falcons have any left?

When was the last time the Browns drafted a RB? They didn't acquire Hillis with a pick. Just pointing that out and showing that they are the Browns for a reason.

This has been discussed ad nauseum. He said as a precursor to this mock that it was based solely on talent from watching tape, and had zero to do with team need or off field issues. This isn't even truly a mock per se, it's a list of the 32 best guys, in order, from his breakdown of tape. So argue if you'd like about why he thinks Gilmore's tape shows more than Claiborne's (I'll save you time, he thinks Gilmore can play inside and outside both sides), but don't argue about how it is the worst mock because of who is going to who. If we had the #1 pick, he would have still 'mocked' RG3 to us in this scenario, regardless of how outrageous it would actually be. Hell, Indy has come out and confirmed they are taking Luck, yet he is still mocked 2nd overall, based on Cosell's unbiased review of tape.

So no, it's not a horrible mock if you comprehend what he is trying to do with it, which he clearly has laid out.

ORLY?

Here's how I am doing it: I will choose players based on my film study and my sense of team needs.

I'm sure these guys get bored with this stuff too.

They are paid to write, to get "attention" and to bring in advertising revenue.

If they didn't say something different or take a different angle there would be no point in releasing the five thousandth mock draft. They know it will piss off some nerd somewhere and an entire forum will visit the site. Then they make more money. Don't take these things so seriously, the people who write them don't.

Kalil is the best tackle in this class but he is a tad overrated. He's not Joe Thomas or Jake Long. More like a better version of Bryan Bulaga, and thats not an insult. It may have something to do with playing at USC and having a Pro Bowler for an older brother.
