Jonanthan Stewart or Joe Flacco? If you had hindsight.

Lets use hindsight AFTER the coming season. Not sure it will go as well for Joe as it did the last...

Echo this

His performance in the playoffs was pretty darn bad. Now I know Delhomme also had a shocker, but all through the season Flacco was never asked or at least never actually won a game for them. He simply played QB on a team which has one of the greatest ever defenses at scoring points.

Now consider that most second season QB's have a slump after their rookie year and we could see him in his true colours.

Then add in the loss of a couple of key players for the defense and you could see Flacco look lost this coming season.

Jake hate gives people bad logic.

Flacco? People keep using the term franchise QB. Quit listening to ESPN. Remember Vick? Flacco doesn't look like a franchise QB, he looks like Trent Dilfer 2.0 which isn't horrible, but don't call him a franchise qb. Besides that, Smith would have ate Flacco alive in huddle.

if we had a chance at the #1 rated QB coming out in the 2002 draft do we take him over julius peppers? should we have taken the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th rated QB from that draft instead?

should we have taken the best available QB in 2003?

we could play this game for every year.

what would be the point?

we did the right thing drafting stewart, he as the best RB of that draft. we have visited this question before several times. we did the right thing moving up and taking otah.

start looking ahead. quit looking behind at hypotheticals. we have an incredibly solid team. you would be hard pressed to find two RBs that get along as well as they do and feed off each other like they do. no ego...just happy to be the best RB tandem in the NFL and potentially the best ever. we have an awesome Oline who will only be getting better. We have a great FB and just picked up another that will be able to push double trouble into the end zone for years.

guys...start thinking ahead.

Its history dude, this is a discussion board, look how many responses this debate is getting. If we look behind and analyze our moves we cant get better results in the future.

so this thread will help us predict the future on who will and won't be a bust? Drafting is 50% scouting and 50% luck.....there is no way the Panthers can change that.

also, neither Stewart or Flacco has done enough or played long enough to lean either way on who will have been a bigger impact player.

Joe wouldn't have started, developed behind Jake, you're at pick 13 again, trade down and take Joe Flacco at the ravens spot or stay with Stewart who could have been replaced by another RB in round 2 or 3 (pick from the Ravens via move up trade).

I'm unphased, i wouldnt mind flacco but im perfectly fine with stew, just thought it would be an interesting question if we had 20/20 hindsight

Flacco just would not of took us as far last year, maybe in the playoffs though.

Pretty much.

Stewart was the ideal choice for the kind of system Fox wants to run. As long as we're playing "Foxball", the franchise QB pick everybody keeps wanting just isn't going to happen. I don't know why people bother getting their hopes up.

If we have no glaring needs next year I see no problem taking a QB in the first roud. Now if we where the Lions no way in hell would I want one. But if you can grab one and groom him right and not throw him in the game the first he might be a great one.

That'd be the only situation where I could imagine it, and it's iffy whether that happens.

Even if that happened though, he'd be riding the bench for his first few years. Anybody wanting a high rookie pick to come in and start from day one under Fox is dreaming.

I agree the quickest way to ruin a QB is to give him full reins the first year. We wont due it next year even if we get a first because we have needs. We will need to get a first round DT next year.
