Kuechly On Sports Science Espn

Kuechly is 6'3" runs just as fast and has just as high a vertical leap (within half an inch). And if we are trying to run around cones then Graham is 2 one hundreds of a second faster. Funny but I never saw any cones on the field, have you???? Other than the 3 inches in height, they are identical. And don't tell me height is everything because cornerbacks routinely and successfully cover guys 3 inches taller.

We need to be able to cover in the middle of the field and lets be honest that wasn't Beason's strong suit before the injury. Kuechly brings the best chance to finally get the tight end monkey off our backs and shore up the pass defense. When you add that to all the rest he brings, it is no brainer. Just ask Beason who should know.

Yes it wuz. Beason is one of the best coverage LBs in the game, he can do it all. Legit 3 down LB. You can watch youtube highlights and see that. Once again knocking someone thats proven just to promote someone thats unproven.

You know what makes us, hell any defense better?

Pass Rush and Stopping the pass.

You can argue about Coochie all you want but what we need is help at pass rush and stopping the pass.

We need depth at LB. And since we're going by "Well Beason said-" That's coming from the goddamn head coaches mouth.

How many playoff berths did Pat Willis have before Aldon Smith came in wrecking poo.

Yeah. None.

Not saying Byakuya Kuchiki is a bad player and wouldn't make us better, but we desperately need help getting to the QB.

Cox. Coples. Ingram who I doubt we'd take. Someone to boost our ability to get to the QB.

Seriously how many superstar LBs do the Giants have?

We also need help stopping the pass. Our secondary has more holes than our LB core.

Cooties would make a nice pick, sure, but damn we have more pressing needs than a great tackler.

What do the giants have to do with our defensive scheme? We can take a DT and will not have the DL the Giants have.We invested in 2 dts last year in the draft and added a starter with Ron Edwards with 2 years left on his contract.

Bringing a pass rush is relevant to the defensive scheme.Do I think we need to upgrade our DE? Hell yea but remember we have DEs in 2nd as well to choose from. Its sounds what you are saying is draft for your biggest need with the 1st pick which is fine if that person is there. The J Johnson schemes uses zone blitzes from yes.. LBs as well as Dbs. If we are trying to mimic the Giants good luck because it wont happen in this draft.

Beason was simply asked to mainly be a coverage LB....so that is where his production shows.

Luke projects better on that aspect than Beason did coming out. That isn't a knock Beason to pimp Luke

Beason's issues have more to do with his height against tight ends and he doesn't have elite speed against backs like Sproles. The concern I have is that the first thing to go with an achilles injury is that first step burst and explosiveness. He won't be as fast as he was and that wasn't elite before. That is being realistic, that isn't trying to tear him down. He is one of my favorite players and I have his jersey. If I thought Beason was going to be 100% this year I wouldn't be on the Kuechly train at all. In fact I didn't even consider linebacker with the first pick even with Davis' issues until I read a study on NfL players recovering from Achilles injury and the results for linebackers were brutal. In the first 3 years following surgery versus the 3 years before, there was something like a 90% reduction in effectiveness and linebackers were the most affected of any group including corners and wide receivers.

The thing with that is i fully understand the fact that I am a fan and not a doctor i trust the coaching staff and players to make those assumptions and decisions. I fully thought Beason was ready to play when he stepped on the field last year opening day and was ready to go when it turned out he wasnt. When he steps on the field again this year i will expect him to be ready to go just like i was last year, thats all i can do. Biggest thing to me is the fact that Beason got hurt but he doesnt have a injury history so i dont see a level of huge concern hovering over him. So using a top 10 pick on insurance for one year just doesnt seem that logical in our case.

Well you can look at those with comparable injuries to make educated calculation that Beason will not be 100% week 1 and ready to go.

Delhomme didn't have an injury history prior to blowing his elbow out.....no QB prior ever returned to past glory following Tommy John. Shouldn't of been a shock the struggles he faced adjusting with the change

If this were a torn triceps or even an ACL for the first time I might agree but the Achilles heel is one of the worse injuries for a player short of a back or neck injury. This has nothing to do with his injury history, this has everything to do with the rehab and expectations to return to 100%. I said that it was unlikely he would be 100% this year but 1/3 of all players never play again. The other 2/3rd try and recover.Takeo Spikes who had this surgery several years back needed 3 years and a different team before his production ever approached what it was prior to his surgery. I hope Beason is 100% and great at the beginning of the season but this would be more than simply 1 year insurance. Kuechly in my mind is the only linebacker in the first round who played at an elite level in college as both an outside linebacker and middle linebacker. He give us versatility not found by anyone else.

Please keep in mind that we heard all of these exact same quotes when draft folks were talking about Rolando Mcclain, and Aaron Curry.

We need pass rush, and corner help. Especially in a division where we have to go against Jones/White, Colston/Graham/, and Benn/Jackson/Winslow.

P.S. for those of you thinking that this rook out of college can "shut down" the TE's for the other teams, you are totally delusional.

Nice video. But the Goal line test is a little flawed. You'd have linemen in the way and that hit would have to be precise. Remember the RB would probably try to extend his arms to break the plane for a TD.

His acceleration is truly amazing though. If we didn't have Beason I'd say go for it. I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to picking him up because of his transition to the OLB spot. I know he's played some in college but his true potential will be tapped in the mike.

Jimmy Graham barring injury or Jimmy Clausen level QB is going to be a HOFer. I don't like it, but the kid is a beast. Everyone who said that he can cover Graham either knows they are lying though their teeth, or are either to busy building a lot of straw arguments. Anyway.

Look at all the playoffs teams this year. Great Linebacking corps? Nope unless you count the 3-4 teams with rush linebackers. You can get top level LB and S in the 2nd and 3rd round.

2 touches and 100 yards against the 49ers in the playoffs. How many yards did you expect him to put up against those weak defenses. 2000?

http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/13232/jimmy-graham

His game didn't drop against teams like the Texans, Bears, Giants.

No shame in Koochy not being able to cover him. No LB can. Just quit saying he can.
